20 years ago I was doing 6 month changes and ended up with a big mess of sludge. Since then, it has been 3 months. The car may have 6000 by then, and the truck less than 1000.

I agree 100%! I also think that the typical 3 month rule can be stretched out longer as well, to 6 months or even 1 year depending on the climate, driving habits and condition of the engine.
