3/8 Stubby Ratchet Advice

I only question if a top shelf tool is really needed for such low torque and infrequently used tool as a 3/8 stubby.
I agree with that. Which is why my stubby ratchets and wrenches are gear wrench brand. They’re mid grade at best but the ratchets are fine tooth and the wrenches grip well enough for the torque I can put on a stubby.

I just bought a 1/4" drive stubby ratchet at Lowes...musta been Kobalt. It works well.

It worked beautifully doing the first oil change on my new Corolla Cross. There's a small covering plate underneath to remove with 10mm nuts. 14mm drain plug. 3/8 drive adapter for the oil filter wrench.

It's all I need, with a drain pan-container. The DIY mechanic can just climb under from the front on this vehicle--no need to lift; no ramps; no jack stands.

I think it's difficult to do better than the Tone compact with 3/8" anvil in a 1/4" body. It's "only" 72T but quite honestly that's more than enough and backdrag is minimal. It's almost comically "clown car"-esque when you see the anvil nearly as wide as the head of the ratchet.

As another benefit, it's lightweight which I find very useful when fumbling about blindly with one finger and barely a fingertip (my wife might say this is an average Saturday night for us.... :D )
