29 year old washer died

GE refrigerator, Whirlpool Washer & dryer.

my set is relatively new as i bought my house in october.

Moms GE refrigerator is going on 25 years
Dads GE died at 30 years
grandparents GE is going on roughly 20 years

mom’s whirlpool washer and dryer set is 15 years old handed down from my grandparents

my dad’s set of whirlpool washer and dryers are going on 20ish years after having 5 people worth of clothes washed through them, then when i broke out into oil and gas it had my heavy FRC’s going through them. he offered to sell them to me but i wanted a new set to go with the rest of my new appliances.
Yeah, that’s why I asked the age.
Older appliances were made to last forever.
Our last house of 16 years we sold with the original appliances from when it was built.
They all look like new and worked perfect
Whirlpool washer, dryer, and whirlpool dishwasher
Kenmore elite refrigerator

This new home currently has two year-old LG washer, dryer and refrigerator
GE built-in oven Separate cooktop and dishwasher

I would expect all the above to last maybe 12 years and honestly in that period of time I probably will get tired of them
One thing that hasn’t changed much is the price over the last two decades and I suspect products rely more on cheap electronics than good well built, mechanical apparatus

This.
Our ancient Speed Queen has a float to shut off water fill and a mechanical timer that you can hear ticking away between cycles.
After thirty years of use, which included the laundry from our two (then) young sons, it's still washing our clothes.
What else would anyone want in a washing machine?

Something that can fit a cal-king sized comforter.

I'm the owner of a Speed Queen in my walkout basement apartment I now rent to my niece. I bought it new in 2016 and I had to repair it last year.

Pics of it:

Here is the sad part for those that subscribe to Consumer Reports. Looking at top loader, with and without agitator.

LG has the highest ratings over all for their tests in the 70+/100. The only “reliable” and “satisfied owner” is Speed Queen in the 90+/100 with only knocks against efficiency.

Very sad the newer GE, Whirlpool, Maytag are in like 20’s / 100 for owner satisfaction and 40-50/100 for reliability

You can't open the lids anymore. They lock. Why you ask ???? So you're dog don't jump in, I dunno...No. The deep fill goes by weight of the load. Fancy, all this computerized washing machine nonsense, until the computers crap out out..LOL....I can look thru the lid and see that it most surely does not deep fill,,,, unless you have a big load of clothes in it. So, it's really not a lie. Just saving water. More soap in the clothes if you ask me. GIMME MY DEEP FILL !!!!!!!!!
Lid lock is cheaper than a basket brake. UL specs basket must stop within X amount of time after lid is raised 1''.
Since rpm sensor is integral to motor drive systems today the lid lock is more cost effective than a big brake assembly.
Bulky cycle will give a higher water level also.

CR is clueless. I watched the rollout of Maytag Neptune front loaders get the rave reviews on CR. They were turds, lots of issues with them. Once a month service bulletins. By year 2 they suddenly went from hero to zero on CR.
CR relies on customer feedback. Not only do you have to pay to be on CR but who is really going to admit they bought junk? Most are there to toot their horn ''I've got this"".
Their testing is by the manual, not real life customer abuse IE constant overloading or installation issues or both just to name one common example.
