Are the weather folks going to blame Canada again this year like they did when the Polar Vortex came down from the north?

Who else can we blame, Eh?

We love the Canucks.

from the NWS:

Quote
..Life Threatening Wind Chills into Thursday Morning...
Near historic cold and life threatening wind chills are expected
over the entire area into Thursday morning. The coldest
temperatures since 1996, possibly colder, combined with the wind
are expected to push wind chills into the range of 30 to 50 below
zero. The coldest wind chills of this arctic blast, with some
spots reaching 55 to 60 below, occurred late Tuesday night into
early Wednesday.
Rural areas had significant drifting on Tuesday and Tuesday
night. Due to the extreme cold, this could create a life
threatening situation if your vehicle becomes stuck in the snow
drifts or disabled. Travel is not advised.

...WIND CHILL WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM CST
THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Life threatening wind chills of 35 to 50 below zero
into Thursday morning.

* WHERE...Portions of east central and northeast Iowa.

* WHEN...Until 10 AM CST Thursday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The dangerously cold wind chills could
cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 5 minutes.

It may be Friday before I can snow-blow a foot of snow in front of the house and the driveway to get out.

Massive Arctic out breaks I have seen...

Christmas 1983.... High temp in southeast Va.. mid 10s... Brutally cold.

January 1985.... Coldest observed temp I have seen -12°F day after Super Bowl...

December 1989... Right before Christmas... Temps upper teens to low 20s with just about the coldest wind chills I have seen..

February 1994 .... Coldest mean temp observed for Norfolk... 10°F.... Brutally cold. Also highest barometric pressure observed has well in Norfolk.. That afternoon it was °5 above zero at 330 pm... I'm not sure that thermometer was totally accurate... But it surely was not above 10°F...

January 1999... Very brief but massive cold front dropped temps into low 20s for highs. I was working on the water pulling up clams... It was hard core.

December 2004... Massive cold front and high temps in the teens to low 20s.... The night before we had a flash freeze event with that front... In less than 2 miles it went from driving rain to snow covered roads... Absolutely amazing.

February 2008... Exceptionally strong front dropped low temps into single digits... With no snow on the ground... Unusual to see temps that low with zero snow on the ground.

January 2014... After a record warm December the month before... Massive intrusion of Arctic air came southward... Temps went from 70s to high temps in the mid 20s...

March 2014... Sunday.... Temp 74°... Smoking beef ribs and hot dogs for my friend.... 24 hours later... 23° and snowing.... Iargest 24 temperature drop I have ever witnessed in 24 hours... Amazing. Also avg high temp in my area is in the low 50s for that time of year
.. . Coldest day in March I have ever seen.

February 2015.... Cold month as a whole... But late February Arctic front had high temps in the low 20s... And this was in the last week of the month... Exceptionally cold fir that late in February.

January 2017... Fresh off major winter storm... High low 20s and temps below 0°F... One would have never guessed a month later we would see 84-86° F...

Late December through January 2018... Strange to see winter conditions in Florida... But it happened. Savannah saw a nice snow has well... Charleston saw 4-5 inches... So... In my area temps in upper teens to low 20s for highs. And for only the second time I could recall a will there's storm taking shape over the Bahamas... One other was December 1989.... And that system dropped 15-18 inches of snow in the Wilmington NC area and outer Banks... And yes Florida saw winter conditions in that event also...

It would be nice if the Canadians would actually insulate the Border in the winter time doesn't help us much here in New England however we get even in the summertime because we send the heat up there

If Canada built a wall it would only stop the snowbirds from driving south & clogging up I-75! This isn't that bad, besides, it's supposed to be 60F here on Monday! Imagine the size of the potholes!

Was -3F here this morning but actually very nice and didn't feel cold because 0 mph wind.
The other day it was 22F with 45mph gusts and that was brutal.

It was only -4F last night but we did have a pretty strong wind from the south and a nice cold wind chill. This is only my second full winter in the house and the first time we had a real strong wind from the south. I didn't realize how bad the converted porch was; the curtains were blowing around. I think it's going to have to be a project this year to seal that room up. It was crazy!

Out for an afternoon walk yesterday afternoon, Jan 30th, on our neighborhood open space HOA trail. It was overcast but in the mid '60s. That's the Venteux winery in the background.

It should be obvious now why I use 0W-30 in our German fleet instead of 0W-40 or 5W-40!

Maybe a seasonal sealing job with some plastic sheeting?

-34.4 on my thermometer this morning. It is supposed to be 40 this weekend with a chance of rain and snow. Go figure that one out?
