Attached is a UOA of the Equinox I just sold. Miles were put on almost entirely on a 5 day (2 days down and 2 days back) round trip from central Michigan to Phoenix AZ. Oil used was Mobil1 0W-30 AFE and 1/2 quart of Mobil1 EP 0W-20 just to get it to the full mark. I know the owners manual recommends 0W-20 but that's what I had at the time.

Enjoy!

Nice report! If you don’t mind me asking, why did you sell such a new car?

I still have a supply of 0W20 D1G3 oil I bought for our Equinox so no change soon but I was thinking I may just consolidate and run 5W30 in it after the 20wt is gone. Our 1.4L in the Cruze called for 5W30 and it was a very similar engine to the 1.5
Your viscosity was on the low end of the range with the 30W.

Americanized GTL 0w30s sure aren't as robust overall, as the Euro 0w30s. Vey little dilution noted and it still finished pretty darn thin for a Mobil-1.
But hey, that's the trend nowadays with SP.

Look at the post. I did put a 1/2 quart of 0W-20 in to top it off. That's probably why it's thinner than normal.

Blackstone is horrible on measuring viscosity accurately. That 8.88 is probably 9.5 at least. 150 Moly, that's another error.

AFE 0W-30 starts at 10.5. Despite your adding of a little bit of 0W-20 it should still be at least 10.0. Blackstone is wrong. Don't waste your money on them again.

Black Stone is not wrong in this report. 8.8 cst is will within upper limit of 20 weight that maxes out at 9.3 cst. There was fuel present in this sample about 2%. Given this engine is TGDI it's expected to shear down quite easily within first couple thousand miles on OCI. 1 Pint of 0w-20 will not bring down viscosity much. Do you have any samples of 0w30 AFE with 5k + miles on TGDI staying above 10.0 cst?

I saw on a 2.7 turbo Bronco that was 9.5 with fuel.

9.5 with 4.1k miles. Again aside from HPL, Amsoil, Redline pretty much non existent for M1 AFE to stay in grade with 5k miles on GDI let alone TGDI. M1 AFE viscosity is pretty much toast after 2-3k every single time. OP had a best case scenario with almost all being highway miles in 5 days. That would of gotten destroyed in a normal OCI with commutes. Back to the subject again why does black stones viscosity sound wrong to you?

Because I did multiple VOA's from them and viscosity was off by miles. That's why people here suggested I should use Oil Analyzer. They showed HPL Premium Plus 7.35, crazy. HPL is actually 8.87. They did the same to Amsoil. They showed PUP 5W-30 as 9.29, while Oil Analyzer showed 10.3 which matches exactly what Pennzoil says. I will upload screenshots tomorrow if you want. Good night
