202x Ford MACH 1 with handling package, 9k miles, 10R80 transmission failed. Any real fixes yet to get 200k miles or more?

Maybe he has. Listed the OEM performance parts and his suspension mods. If not track sessions maybe "spirited" driving on the street? Either way, hammering on a known sketchy transmission might not be the best plan. Hope he gets it fixed and does whatever mods necessary for it to survive his preferred use.

Is the racing disclaimer in the Mustang OM or every Ford OM?
Dunno, I just looked in the Mustang one. Likely is though.

I would go aftermarket, there are builders out there now that have these transmissions right.

And these transmissions running low 9’s in the quarter mile (Steeda) NA engine.
They can be rebuilt with good results if done correctly.

This is my son’s car, I was trying to research proper ATF drain and refill procedure.
I wish this transmission had a dip stick and drain plug.

Sorry to hear the OP is having so many problems with his transmission. 🙁

If Ford transmission program is anything like GMs then a ford transmission for that car will have all the latest updates.

I would be pushing for a replacement under warranty if i thought it needed transmission work.

I talked to Steeda today and they have their transmissions rebuild every few months

I took mine in with 18k miles and they said “they all do this,” and sent me home with a firmware update which held rpms slightly higher for shifts done during acceleration. The problem remained.

If there’s metal debris, this is warranty work. I’ve read that the clutch material is cheaper, though also have read that the programming manages it so well as to not be a problem. CDF drum I think is on revision 3, but online consensus isn’t confident it’s fixed.

A small, partial dose of lubeguard red has kept mine running since then, very well, except for every once in a while when it loses its mind and I go about refreshing fluids and resetting the adaptives. 75k on it now. It’s a great vehicle beyond that. I also think it may be better served behind the 2.3 - which has less rotating mass - these ecoboosts send out a lot of low-rpm torque.

Good thing they are doing the valve body.

This should be warranteed, and if not I’d start talking with an attorney to understand what to do right in case this becomes one to return under lemon law. I’m surprised ford has been so sluggish to offer responsibility - it’s not a secret. Your car is new enough to get out of it if there’s a critical problem you don’t want to live with.

I feel like this is great information for anybody with a 10R80 Ford or GM 10L80 transmission:

My impression is that a large part of the problem is not just the valve body, but the transmission eating itself and then filling the valve body with aluminum and steel shavings. Then some think the problem is the valve body when that is just the downstream collector of refuse.

Hopefully for those of us that love our cars. and even future buyers of our 10R80 and 10L80 cars and trucks, GM and Ford will continue to greatly improve the transmission along with aftermarket.
As far as I can tell, our transmission also shares a lot with the larger 10R140 truck transmissions.

if you watch the videos, you’ll see that aftermarket folks are picking the best parts out of the Ford transmission and using them in the GM transmission. I can’t think of a part, but I would also assume that GM probably has some parts that are better than the Ford, that you could use in the Ford transmission.

For the VB to fill up with debris, it would first have to be ingested through the oil filter. The filter in these units is a work of art. The oem versions are dual element with a thermostatic flap. Operating temperature flows through a tighter filter. Cold operation gets a bypass into less tight media, but it’s still media. I can’t see metal grains passing through?

You must have got a bad transmission. I had a 2018 GT Premium with the 10 speed auto and it was really good. It always seemed to know which gear to be in w/o hunting. I didn't run it hard, though. Probably only a handful of times along with a few burnouts to test the linelock LOL.

If dealership doesn’t want to fix transmission I would definitely get rid of car.

You mention you have some mods on it, they will use this against you. I would recommend removing all mods and converting back to stock, otherwise you will be fighting an uphill battle to get this covered under warranty.

Why throw a Valve Body at it, The time for the dealer/manufacturer to nitpick was before throwing parts at it.

Feb. 10 2025 I got my car back!
My car with 9000 miles had been at the dealer this time for almost 3 months since November 19, 2024.
Ford finally gave in and put in a new 10R80 transmission.
Now, I am trying to figure out how to make it last longer than a few months.

If that's truly how you feel about it get rid of it. Nothing worse than driving a car wondering is today the day

If you don't get satisfaction, join the class action suit. If a company doesn't stand behind its warranty the only thing that gets the company's attention is a law suit.

That is a logical response. I love the car when it runs properly! Another problem is a lot of the other vehicles have their problems. Also I’ve also already spent quite a bit of money on this car so I would probably never get what I’ve put into it.

I did the same thing with my 2021 F250 , but the day I traded it away was a good day . Yup I think every model vehicle has its flaws that's for sure .
