2027 Chevrolet Bolt - Revealed

One company sells products and services to make its money but goes out of its way to protect my data and me even to the point of angering some authorities trying to usurp the law.

The other company makes money from advertising by selling my data and personal information, or allowing their associates and apps to buy, steal, and or leak it with not a care in the world about me.
Apple doesn't make money from advertising? Tim Cook has literally said he is looking to pivot the company towards services and advertising is one of those things that fall under the services umbrella.

Google may make money from advertising but their ecosystem is relatively open. And there's a lot of things you can turn off if you so desire.

Sure apple charges money to run ads in their app store, but end user privacy is front and center.
There is an enormous difference between the way these two companies operate when it comes to privacy and being able to ask apps not to track you.

Totally agreed Google is more open and It does have a lot more apps in the ecosystem.
The downside to that though is a lack of quality control and a much higher % of apps leaking data.

For the most part yeah but mainly because Tesla is such a household name nowadays. But they love their IPhones, which means they love their Apple carplay.
Yeah, I think about this a lot. The 2025 gas equinox is the first car with all in CarPlay. The reason Im so aware is the other care we looked at does not have it which was the Equinox EV.

I have to admit. I have got quite used to "CarPlay" Im not saying its the end all of everything but I do enjoy jumping in my wife's car with it vs my 2017 Traverse which still works good with the iPhone but not seamless. I used to like to take my truck everywhere but I feel something is missing when I do. Even though the stereo in it is quite good.
I think I might miss car play quite a bit if another new car does not have it but I would survive. I think.

I was very hard-core CarPlay. It takes a really good OEM system to beat that. The apps have to be well integrated and stay up to date with the phone apps or it's just an inferior experience.

When the new Bolt hits the showrooms, do you think it will still be at this price?? They must be in production now.

Supposedly MSRP will start around $29K for the base. The new Bolt will be better because it will incorporate fast charging and many of the current EV technologies, including the Tesla network compatibility.

With the evaporation of the free tax money I am sure prices will be realistic. Demand has fallen off for EVs. They key would be, Chevy is only running one shift of production instead of two because of the ending of the free money so time will determine if that is enough to keep the car in a tight supply range.

Whether dealers order them loaded with stuff we will find out but I think even they will know they are shooting themselves in the foot if they do make them too expensive. I mean, you would be getting too close to even the base of an inexpensive Tesla if they did. Let's not forget even the sharp looking Equinox EV can be bought for another 4 to $5000 above the base Bolt.

that's got to be for the base model, I'm sure the premier ultra redline diamond edition will be a lot more.

I think you are probably right. There will likely be 4-5 versions of it.

GM dealers never cared what anyone else had if though they had something hot on their hands they mark up to the moon.
They basically ruined the market for the get 1 volt with stratospheric markups. Anything perceived as desirable gets a second sticker on the window.

I don’t get why people buy the cars anyway. If it has markup and/or price is not reasonable, just don’t buy? Every car I’ve bought had some insane markups. Just get up to leave and they’ll run after you. When I got the Prologue they wouldn’t budge from MSRP+$8K of crap. I literally drove away and within 10 minutes they were calling me offering me the price I wanted which was a discount + no adds.

The Equinox EV was a little better of an experience. Took forever but a few nos was enough for them to stop trying to tack on extras.

My BF’s Volt we got used at a Toyota dealer… the advertised price was good. But when we got there was $6K of BS. I was like it’s fine we can just go buy a car somewhere else. They send out some older very well dressed dude to try to negotiate after half an hour or more of back and forth with the salesperson and their manager. IDK who this guy was but I told him if we aren’t paying the advertised price of the car we will just leave. He said they were going to lose thousands on the deal. Not my problem. I told my BF to gather his stuff we’re leaving. Mr. Grandpa in a suit was like fine whatever we’ll remove the addons.

There are millions of cars in this world. If it’s too expensive or marked up just go buy something else.

I couldn’t agree more, I never understood why people just can’t walk away if they don’t like the price. I mean, even if you order a Tesla if you don’t like the price, people automatically walk away because there is no negotiating with Tesla buy it online or walk nor is there any dealerships in many states

As far as the second comment, I never knew an automobile company or any company for that matter that isn’t in business to make a profit
The pricing on the automobiles is set by the independent dealer. You already know what the price of the vehicle is coming direct from the company and you can get those sticker prices if anybody makes an effort to.

One thing for sure General Motors is the one successful automobile company left in the United States so they must be doing something right. Not that I’m defending any particular car company.
But maybe one day we’ll be able to put them out of business too, and buy everything from China

People are by and large terrible negotiators.
The dealers will get away with whatever one lets them.

Agreed, people really need to learn when to walk away. It's the ultimate ace card.

Correct, everybody that buys a Tesla pays the same price on the same day vs the guy thats the best negotiator.

I have no problem with the manufacturer making a profit. It's the model the big 2 work under thats seen its day come and go.

My issue is with a legally mandated middle man who adds no to negative value trying to gouge me.

Every now and then, one can actually add value or provide me with a service and I try to reward those that do with my business.
The only one that really added value for me was Lexus.

Id like to see all American manufacturers succeed and wish GM and Ford did not have their hands tied behind their back being repped by a network of takers.

It’s called retail like any product you buy in a store
However, at least with GM, you could kind of circumvent the retail store by paying the manufacturers listed price from the company or a car buying service and picking it up at the retail store

I don’t know if you ask me I can’t do that with my LG washer dryer refrigerator and Sony TV 🤔
The most part anything you buy in a store.

With that said I get what you’re saying I’m just stating it in a simplistic way we live in a free world. And that’s why if the consumer would walk away the practice wouldn’t take place, but we know what the majority does.
They roll over like a friendly dog

Interesting... I can go buy a pickup of my choice truck online at MSRP and pick it up ?
Can I go pick one out of existing inventory and just bypass the dealer by buying directly or do I have to order one and wait for it?

I dont know about LG but I can call my Sony rep and buy anything I want and have many times, but I often get a better deal buying through a retailer.

We do business direct and indirect at my company.
Dont want to deal with my dealer network - We'll take your order at MSRP with absolutely no fuss.

Yeah I think GM and Tesla are the only two American car companies that are going to succeed long term. Hopefully some day the dealer franchise laws will go bye bye and GM can offer the same fantastic no-nonsense purchase and service experience that Tesla does.

I get what you’re saying, but you come from a different world.
On the flipside, maybe someday Tesla will be able to deliver the fantastic experience of getting the vechicle serviced locally instead of hours of drive time away
Many states have between 1 and 7 Tesla dealerships in the entire state.
General Motors has between one and seven in every county in the country

Ford's doing pretty well with the F150 Lightning leading ev truck sales
Not so sure... Ford loses money on their EV business as does GM.
GM hopes to be profitable going forward, but there are challenges. They have little room to absorb the loss of the tax credit is the biggie.

I wish them well; I hope they both get there.
