Not bad but:
Another major change is in the Bolt’s software. The previous one had CarPlay, but this one won’t.

A lot of people are unhappy about that, and I understand the unhappiness.

that's dumb as all get out

Glad its back. I'm sure GM doesn't make a pile of money on it, but its a great way to get into an electric car for normal people. I kinda like the Blazer/Honda twins but could never justify the expense.

Expense? You can get a used Prologue Touring AWD with just a few thousand miles for $25K. I think that's a lot of value :)
link? something available to purchasers in all 48 states anyway. (no state subsidys etc)
(cheapest local one was a RWD with 10k miles and 28k price)

At least in California there are no state subsidies for EVs. So I'm not sure what you mean. But here's the first AWD one I found for 25K. Plenty of FWDs available. A Touring might be $2K more but you can probably negotiate it down to $25K. https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for...=HONDA&modelCode=HONPROLOG&state=CA&zip=94558

ok but I'd like a used prologue touring awd with a few miles for 25k ;)
those are surprisingly cheap.

Not sure the bolt will be a hit without EV subsidys the mid 30k's with feature bloat+ taxes is a far cry from the 20k they were before.
ditto for maverick popularity starting prices at 20k(intro) vs 29k(now)

But $20K in 2017 is almost $27K today in terms of inflation, it charges 3x as fast, and it's based on the slightly bigger/more expensive version of the Bolt (that used to be called EUV). The only thing you're losing is Apple CarPlay.

but the mid'30's are going to be crowded. for example the 2026 ionic 5 starts around 35k

no more distortion of people buying new EV's and trading them in after getting the full tax credit
producing artificially low $$$ used models.

They also snuck in “150kW+” DC Fast charging. I bet it’s something like 175kW, but they don’t want to advertise over the 150kW of Equinox EV or the small-battery Blazer EV.

Those two will likely get faster-charging LFP packs in the coming year or two.

This is interesting:

“It will begin shipping to customers early next year and will be a limited run model.”

GM already announced Fairfax will get the next-gen affordable EV (after this Bolt). My guess is for MY2028 or MY2029 we’ll see a totally new gen EV with the USA-made LG and Samsung LFP cells.
Maybe they're trying to repeat the experience of before where the thing kept selling even after they were supposed to stop production. It does seem odd though. Limited run model until...the refresh?

Yeah, part of the goal in re-using the Bolt EUV design was to save money in tooling and whatnot. It doesn't make a ton of sense to kill the model so soon.

Maybe they're getting hammered too hard on Chinese battery tariffs and it's just not profitable. But, like, you don't need to kill the whole model for that. Get the batteries from somewhere else.
