2024 Tundra engine OCI plan

Going forward on my 24 Tundra. I’m going to siphon out dealer bulk oil for AMSOIL Signature Series 0w20. Granted it will be changed every 5K. The dealer will do the 10K per my maintenance plan up to 85K. I’ll do the 5K change. Both times the filter will be changed. After the 85K I’ll do a used oil analysis to see if it could be pushed further.

I would cancel the plan but it gives me documentation for warranty purposes till my 75K warranty is up.

Different strokes. Run it to 1500 then let the dealer change the oil and filter to get the Break in metals out. Then do your thing. .02

I'd sooner just bring my Amsoil to the dealership and ask them to use it instead of the dealer fill, and then do a 10k OCI and a used oil analysis.

Or go with your plan but use a cheaper oil for the second OCI. 5k on Amsoil is a bit of a waste.

If you're mainly concerned about warranty documentation, just keep receipts for the oil, go buy an oil filter and drain plug washer from the dealership before every oil change for extra documentation if you're worried about it, and change the oil yourself whenever you see fit.

Naw, man. One of the techs will take the jug home and put in dealer fill.

I have not. Have seen not so stellar results here over the years so I never felt the need to use it.

Interesting. Were the not so stellar results on long term 6mo/5k changes in a Toyota motor?

I assume TCCN must see thousands of Toyota/Lexus by now running his prescribed oil (he only sells TGMO) and his recommended interval (5k/6mo). And he apparently hasn't ever seen any issues. So in the case of Toyota/Lexus purely shortening the interval from 1y/10k to 6mo/5k (while using TGMO) seems to prevent any problems from developing.

Could you do the 1yr/10k (or longer) on a "better" oil? Maybe, but then you hit his other argument. If you do get problems running the "better" oil for longer intervals is the "better" oil manufacturer going to step in and financially cover your motor rebuild? Nope.

Yes as not many use TGMO in non Toyota engines. If under factory warranty Toyota should be covering the oil burners with any oil. Outside factory warranty(which is usually when the problems start) you are out of luck no matter the oil….

Specs for oil consumption are pretty high across all manufacturers. Something like "1qt per 1k miles" is considered acceptable consumption?

I personally don’t consider 1 quart per 1k miles normal. As for TGMO it’s nothing special no matter who says it is. Enjoy your weekend, I’m stepping away from this back and forth.

Yeah I don't either, but I wouldn't expect anything to happen under warranty unless that manufacturer oil burning spec was exceeded.

Agreed, TGMO is nothing special - I don't think that claim was being made by anyone, TCCN included

Been there done that. Did it myself at 1700 and 5000 then 10K by the dealer. 20K currently .
