I have pretty much stuck to the idea of 5 to 6K OCI with my DI turbo-charged engine. After getting this report back it seems to me I could probably safely stretch my OCI to 7000-7500 miles. Fuel dilution seems to have been held in check and the TBN still looks strong. I have PUP 5W-30 in the sump now ands plan on running HPL 0W-30 when my stash of PUP is gone.
Type R Blackstone UOA.webp

The k series engines are so good. Haven't had a 4 cyl Honda since the B series but I'd still love a K24 element as a fun car someday.

Thanks for the post . What oil filter was used ? Plan to use this oil or the P.U.P. 5w-20 in the FIT with another M1-110A or PUROLATOR Boss PBL14610 or CARQUEST Premium 84356 in mid fall . Using P.P. 0w-20 with MOBIL 1 M1-110A .

That's about as good as it gets. If you wanted to extend the OCI, I'd say you are safe to go to 8.5k, maybe even further. But 7.5k is a nice conservative start.

I believe I had Honda OEM filter on for that OCI. Fram Ultra filter is on there now and I usually run them for 2 OCI.

Don’t go past 5,000 miles. I don’t care what oil you use, I’ve seen them start using oil at 100,000 miles extending oil changes. Extended drains carbon up the ring lands and cause them to stick. Same as Toyotas

This particular sample was 0W-20.

I guess new 0w-20 PUP is 8.8, so your viscosity loss to 7.41 is OK, many of us on similar Honda 2.0t engines saw it drop to 6.5xx. Good call on using 5w-30, its perfectly fine and allowed in other countries for your exact engine.

Why would you run a filter for 2 oil changes? Filters are cheap.you could by 3 oil filters for the price of this UOA
Because that's Honda's recommendation...and if you'll watch the Insolubles % on UOA's, you'll see they stay down...and even drop on the second OCI that a filter stays in. Why change it if it's doing the job it's designed to do?

The theory about oil filter becoming more efficient with time was debated here and disputed with evidence presented. Most modern oil filters can go 15-20k miles, and that is the reason they say you can run the same filter for two OCI, the “improving efficiency” is not the reason

I didn't say "improving efficiency" was the reason...only that 2 OCI's is the stated design parameter of some vehicles/filters.

This is from YOUTUBE video placed on 4/5/24 . Enter Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w-20 virgin oil analysis ( V.O.A. ) as Y.T. search and should get the video . Many other oil analyses at his site .

Your under the car anyways, like i said you spend more on that UOA, then buying oil filters. Anyone that runs a 20wt oil and a turbo charged engine is foolish. Unfortunately Honda doesn’t put oil temp gauges, but your oil temp will soar above 240. Run euro oils if you planning on keeping it. Recommend viscosity is only recommended because of Gov CAFE. Recommend means should. Shall means you must. I recommend you look up lake speed jr on YouTube. A oil engineer by trade. If you care about your engine, you would go back to 3k mile oil changes. UOA is only a piece of the pie, not the whole pie
