I'm concerned about the recommendation to use a 0w20 oil in my SQ5....Am I worrying for no reason or do we think a VW 507 oil is a better option ? The vehicle is out of warranty by the next oil change and I do plan on keeping this one for at least another 7-10 years and a few hundred thousand miles. Durability is more important to me than fuel economy. I'd appreciate any thoughts and real world comparisons.

A 504 00 oil is definitely a better choice. It’s what I have run in my Tiguan for over 124,000 miles.
Even when it was under warranty and I was getting the free oil changes at the dealership, I asked them to use a 504 00 oil instead.

Definitely or VW511.00, which is a 40-grade version of VW504-507.
You SHOULD be concerned using the 508 in a fairly highly strung turbo V6. Sure, if you soft pedaled it all the time maybe it would be fine, but what fun is that with an SQ? 508 is a pretty stout approval for a thinner oil, but still succumbs to oxidation, viscosity shear thinning, and loss of film strength with fuel dilution. Starting low affords less protection, and those engines are diluters just like almost all VAG turbo ones are. If you want keep it for a long time, a 504/507 at a minimum like @kschachn and many others have done when a 508 is recommended. Like to flex it's muscle? Go with a 511 like @edyvw said. A bit harder to find, but worth it for the long haul especially if you are thinking 10K OCIs (don't

).I have a 2018 SQ5, bought it with 24K on the odo and it is nearing 45k miles now. Previous owner serviced the vehicle at Audi so it was filled with 0W-20. I've been running Mobil 1 5W-40 (VW502 approved) with OCI every 5k miles since I purchased the vehicle.
