2022 Vw Gti

.
I'd take the GTI and pass on the R even if they were the same money.
The GTI is less stiff, not as loud, just less obtrusive, more liveable. The
GTI is as quick in daily driving (almost same torque numbers, but less
weight), even feels noticeably more nimble (again weight) and is more
fuel efficient. It offers more space in the luggage compartment. I also
do prefer red accents over blue. Let's not forget it comes with tartan
seats and a Golf ball if it's a stick. I'm too old to always want more and
more power. Some things fit as they are and you don't need more of it.
.
I owned both a GTI and R MK7, and my own experience was that the R was much more livable... That, to a certain extent, was actually the problem with it, at least for me. With DCC it was softer than my GTI in the soft setting. I didn't notice a difference in noise. The difference in cargo space is miniscule. The big difference though was power to the wheels. Having 4 drive wheels made it feel so much more planted that it wasn't as fun to drive until you reached felony speeding levels.

I agree that in some ways the GTI was more fun to drive. Liveable? Not for me, and particularly since I live in a wet climate where the extra drive wheels came in handy.

I can agree with that.
I had a mk7.5 Gti and a 2020 Audi TTs. The audi was straight up boring to drive.
My mk7.5 was a manual with a tune it was rowdy being fwd.
The mk8 with the ecu gremlins and fancy front diff is also kind of boring, but it has very confident front end turn in and it rotates very well.

Yeah, there were times where my tuned GTi was a little too much fun, no question! While I had the Performance Pack with LSD, I looks like the LSD is a lot more capable on the MK8.

Good luck with the new ride, looks awesome!
