2022 Ram 1500, 5.7 eTorque, 5500 miles. Truck currently has engine oil dripping from where the engine and transmission bolt together.

I'm being told that the oil drips are because of a messy oil change last week. Was told that the tech tried to dump the new oil in too quickly, and it burped back up through the oil fill, and oil went down the side of the engine. However, I've never smelled oil once, nor was the engine powerwashed after the spill (the valve covers still have dust on them).

In other words, I'm to believe an explanation that some spilled 0w-20 oil from the oil change incident last week is *still* dripping all the way back at the rear main area, four days later.

I'm a bit skeptical... I think there's two separate issues at play here.

Just for another perspective - I can say that when oil is spilled into the engine bay it will hold in the different crevasses/splash shields etc. and you'll find drips here and there for weeks depending on the amount. I swear I don't know this from experience!

If you're still seeing drips after 2-3 weeks of regular driving, you may be onto something.

That isn't an entirely surprising. The oil filter spills all over the steering rack when you unscrew it, plus if it has the skid plates, that only compounds the issue. So, add in some oil spillage from the valve cover area, yeah....

I would clean and wash the engine bay top to bottom myself and see what happens. If it still drips oil then back to the dealership for warranty work....and I would complain about a sloppy oil change! I have a RAM and the oil filter makes a mess as mentioned above -BUT literally a couple sprays with brake cleaner and a wipe down with a rag and mess is gone until next time. They should never be messy and since they knew about it they should have cleaned it.

Yup.

I try to do that on all my stuff every year or so, or after any major leaks.
Makes working on and diagnosis so much easier.

Have bought plenty of stuff that last was cleaned probably 10, 20 years before and it takes dozens of hours with the Landa to get it somewhat clean.
