2021 VW GLI - Track Day (Open Lapping) at TMP

Admitted, both ball joints likely won't appreciate hot rotors.
Not sure but depending on severeness and duration of heat.

'Hydraulic brake assist' is what I pointed out. However, I doubt
you have deactivated since there's no option to deactivate for
this. ;)
There are three options: an even more annoying early intrusive
interventions, factory interventions (medium), later less intrusive
interventions. Guess you'd know this, but probably not the OP:

Early and later mean depending on how quickly you step onto
your brake pedal. You want to act quickly eg from gas onto brake
without any disturbing interventions or at least the very least ones.
Unfortunately hydraulic/emergency brake assist detects (or does
misapprehend) your quickness being an emergency case to help
an average driver. FULL braking incl. ABS is the result. It puts you
in being an passenger, you're no longer the boss.

I played with the brake booster from the stock 4 down to 1, I felt like nothing changed.

4 feels more sensitive and initial bite happens earlier, 1 gives a more linear feeling but sinks more.

There is a minimal difference, you need to pay attention to feel it

Looks good. (I still don't actually believe to VCDS on their words 'Not activated')
Thanks to you and TiGeo anyway.

Are these DSG's wet clutch?
6 speeds are/were, 7 speed is dry.

Wait. This is the 'mid sized' DQ381. It's wet clutches like its predecessor DQ250
and unlike the smaller DQ200 (lower torque up to 250 Nm > 1.0-1.4 TSI/1.5 TSI).
Only DQ200 use dry clutches, it's the very only VAG DSG tranny using dry clutches.

Most folks say lowering that number firms up the pedal when they move to larger/BBKs. Very popular with the folks swapping to Macans. I run an APR BBK, felt no difference and I'd say I'm a sensitive driver to these things.

DQ381 is wet, even though it's 7 speed.

AFAIK all DSGs here in North America are wet clutch. Dry clutch DSGs are more popular in Europe.
Ok I was mistaken. The service interval on the 7 spd is different I know that...2x the 40K on the 6 sod 250.

At least now we know its wet clutch, I much prefer wet clutch, well either way I have a dsg. Does all the oil come out of the two plugs?

Nice drive! Always loved the look of the Gli. Had a Mk7.5 and Mk8 gti along with a 2020 TTs. The Dsg's were my least favorite and definitely never "sporty" enough. The shifter on the Mk7.5 was ok for a 6 speed. Comparing to my 370z nismo and FL5 it's really hard to ever be happy with a shifter lol. Nice build too keep the progress coming

Thanks, the FL5 shifter and the seats are really good. I want to buy the new Type-R for MSRP but it's still unobtainable. I used to own a Euro Spec EP3 Type-R and turbocharged it 5-6 years before Honda decided to use one, so every time I see an FL5 on the road, I want one. EP3-R's shifter was also great, too.

I plan to keep the GLI as a daily or spirited driving for the backroads and have something sportier (preferably with a stick shift) as a weekend warrior for track use. It can be an FL5 (if I can find one brand new), an S650 Mustang GT with PP, S550 Mach-1 etc, or a slightly used M2 Comp.

DQ381's TCU tune sucks, I'm hoping it will be fixed after an ECU/TCU tune. I still have a 2-year drivetrain warranty left though, I already waited almost 3 years, so I can wait 2 more years to make sure nothing goes wrong.

Other than that I'm pretty happy with the car, it offers features that are not available with the other entries, such as the memory seats, digital dash, adaptive cruise, ventilated seats, heated rear seats, etc. I think it looks good (in my opinion, especially with 19" Englishtowns), is good on gas and handles well with small mods/changes.

Can't really complain especially for a car that cost $27.500 USD out-the-door when I bought it brand new (and 0% financing lol).

Folks wait for the warranty but should tune earlier as that's the most reliable time to do so.

That's also true, but I have only put 11000 miles so far in the last 2.5 years. The total mileage should be less than 20k in the next 2 years, much less than average.

If I was putting 20k miles a year, I wouldn't have waited 5 years.

Great video! I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by how well the ZF 8HP in my M235i performed on the track. I put the both the car and the transmission in Sport mode and 99% of the time the transmission did exactly what I wanted it to do. All of my prior track rats have been manuals but I thought the 8HP was outstanding.
The only BMW left with the dct is the M2. Apparently BMW owners whined about the dct, especially in stop and go traffic so they removed it for the most part. Sounds like a comment from several employees that worked for a Lamborghini dealership. A number of Aventador owners complained about how they didn't like the isr single clutch gearbox in stop and go traffic.

This was my first VW and switched from Honda, so I had to be a little bit cautious lol

I'll keep an eye on tune deals (Black Friday etc.), if I do it I'll do it for both ECU and TCU.
