It’s more of an Ford thing.
Not really, it's more of an EV thing. Audi has had some early issues with the e-tron (leaks, such as sunroof and water getting into the battery compartment), Tesla has had, and continues to have, fit and finish issues, but they also had issues with breaking control arms early on, dying screens, bluetooth not working properly, the phone as a key not working properly...etc. Audi owners have had their vehicles refuse to charge, and unlike the Mach-e, it doesn't do OTA, so that's a dealer visit (fun!).
Yes, the coach building issues with the Mach-e are a bit odd, given Ford's extensive history of building cars/trucks/SUV's (unlike Tesla) but the electronic/infotainment/communication issues are pretty much par for the course and we'll see these teething issues across all the marques I suspect as they tread deeper into the EV space. Ford's choice of using OTA updates is a big plus here, as the car can be fixed in the driveway.
Having driven a Mach-e a couple of times now, it's a very nice vehicle that Ford seems to have done well on the fit-and-finish, materials selection and trimmings. It's definitely nicer than the Model 3 and Model Y inside, but at the expense of range and their software is not as mature yet. I expect they are still partnered with Microsoft, so they have access to better resources in this space than some of their competitors (excluding Tesla).
I've entertained the idea of buying a Mach-e a few times now (the one I've test driven) but the idea of the GT has prevented me from doing so. I'm fine doing a bit of beta testing on the software as long as the rest of the car is solid.
