Now it's Paul Harvey time, for the REST of the story. For those of you that want some dealership BS to go with your new car purchase.
There are two 'Five Star Ford' dealerships in GA, one in Warner Robins, and one in Stone Mountain. I live about 2.5 hours give or take from Warner Robins and maybe 30-45 min from Stone Mountain.
I originally contacted the WR location because they had the truck in stock on their lot for a price I liked. I called to inquire and talked to 'Bob' (I'm going to edit the name in case some internet avenger gets hold of it) and had a conversation about buying the truck and asked if they could do the paperwork remotely or if I could just do the deal at the Stone Mountain Dealer and they could ship the truck there for delivery. An emphatic NO is what I got along with a story that if I wanted it shipped up here it would be hundreds of dollars, but I'd still have to drive to WR to do the paperwork.
Here's the thing though, both dealers had the same truck listed, verified by VIN number.
So, call Stone Mountain. 'Can you get this truck?'
'Yep, no problem we can get it up here, we can have it here Monday'
'Cool, here's my information and a CC number, get it and hold it, I'll be by Monday to finalize.'
This morning, I'm sitting signing papers talking with my salesman and a text comes over from Bob:
I show my salesman and he has a stunned expression on his face. Asks if he could show his manager the conversation, I hand him my phone and he walks across the floor as I'm watching. Looks like two managers are standing there and I can see their face become visibly redder every second as one of them snatches up a phone and starts dialing. I couldn't hear the conversation, but my salesguy walks back over and assures me that there's no problem and the truck will be here.
Everything in me, says that bygones be bygones and I shouldn't respond to him......but the 45 year old child in me REALLY wants to text him 'How'd that work out for you?'
Comon, how do you fault someone for working the system to their advantage, car dealers do it every single day.
You can bet that I won't be calling, or emailing that particular '5 Star Ford' again, but I'd do business with their sister store in a heartbeat, they made everything easy.
