Hello all,

I also need to get the leaky waterpump of my 2020 Bmw 320i 1.6lt with B48 gasoline engine.

Only concern is that I can not find any service that use vacuum pump to do the coolant fill process. They all say that they do it as drain , replace water pump and refill from both of expansion tanks while the air release screw is open and run the car.

The only thing I will be able to get done will be massaging all hoses while filling the coolant just before starting the engine.

However I do not know whether vacum pump method is essential or optional for my car and whether there is a risk to create air pockets and blow headgasket if it wont be possible to fill enough coolant at this specific b48 bmw engine?

Last year I have already changed coolant myself of both high temp and low temp circuits without using a vacuum pump. Instead I massaged hoses alot and it was successful but after running the car I had to add quite amount of coolant. However I now worry because removing waterpump will probably cause further loss of water. Or will it be the same if water pump is already connected to the lower radiator hose? I am not sure though.

Is there anyone who has done or get done waterpump 11518638026 replacement at this engine without that vacuum pump without blowing headgasket?

Look forward to read your responses.

Many thanks in advance.

Just buy a vacuum fill and replace it yourself. It makes it much easier to fill and you won't have to worry about air pockets. They're really affordable nowadays and they come with many adapters for different makes.

I can not find vacuum fill at the country I am living at the moment. Have no time to get it here from overseas which takes months as I can not get it shipped by laws too.

So my question is for B48 engine waterpump replacement work, is the vacuum fill pump essential or optional?

Your best bet would be to find a european BMW maintenance forum for assistance.

There is a way to get the car to bleed itself for both the high temp (engine coolant) and low temp (intercooler) systems. I can't find the video, but there is something out there on the procedure. I think it's for a B58, but likely the same procedure. Search B58 or B48 coolant bleed diy.

There is a specific procedure for filling and bleeding the cooling systems on these engines. You can't just pour coolant into the engine and try to bleed it. The engine computer (DME in BMWspeak) has to perform the bleeding procedure.

For low and high temp systems bleeding procedure is different, however none of them worked on my car although I exactly did same as the helpful bmw mechanics on youtube.

Thank you everyone for sharing information. I finally could find only one place that had that vacuum pump and got it done with vacuum pump and used HT12 LC18 green Bmw coolant and mixed 50 50 with drinking water.

As waterpump was removed the amount of coolant came out was more than the second time we filled coolant mix after flush with only water and only a very little amount of coolant. I am not sure but felt as 1 liter coolant was missing so next day I sucked all coolantmix inside expansion tank and added a mix of 600 ml coolant and 200ml water.

So I think I should be very close or around %50 %50 mix now. Any ideas?
