2019 vw jetta auto trans problem?

Wonder if the grinding is an unwanted side effect of the low rpm shifting (fuel economy tune) causing some unwanted harmonics in the powertrain. Still should have been caught during testing.

My '12 and the '11 TDI in my sig with 6 spd DSG, the programming lets it lug along at 1100-1200 RPM in some driving situations which causes a pretty obnoxious grating/grinding/rattling sound when giving it a little bit of throttle to maintain speed. Same "fix" is to drop it into sport which then keeps it in gears to keep engine speed closer to 2k RPM.

thanks for all the replies. update: took my passat to dealer for headlight recall, plus free safety check, fluid top up and wash/vacuum. all done well to include battery check, tire and brake wear. service advisor told me that my 86k mile, dealer serviced at this dealer, 2013 passat is in super shape, one of best that he has seen.

while all this goodness was ongoing i moseyed over to sales side. six "non commissioned" young sales folk were all deeply engrossed in their smartphones, without a customer in sight. one finally looked up and asked another to help me. we took a 2019 jetta s out for a quick spin. i didn't notice any transmission grating and found the jetta to be actually a decent car, just not for me (my knees ultimately need something higher). if i were younger, didn't care about the lack of a spare tire, absolutely needed a new car with a great warranty, a jetta would be high on my list. my youngish salesperson was amused and surprised that i: switched off the auto stop/start, praised the plain vanilla cloth seats, asked about the spare tire, didn't care about electronic nannies, was relieved to not see a hole cut through an otherwise solid roof, and talked (what little specifics that i know) about vw models and engines.

we returned to the "non haggle" dealer and ran the numbers, even going along on the trade-in value evaluation drive of my passat. my "really nice" passat (their words, not mine) was only worth $3200 in trade value, which would just cover the cost of ttl, sales tax, dealer processing fee for a new jetta. uh, no thanks. i drove off perfectly content in my passat. seeing the numbers scratched my new car "want, not need" itch.

It's a shame trade in value is so low on used VW's.
