Ok a family member has asked for assistance on a fluid change on their Subaru. Looking for recommendations on what type and if anyone has tips on the technique post ‘em up.
I recommend the use of a CVTF-II fluid or equivalent, not a universal type fluid. The CVT could be part of an extended warranty, so don't give the dealer any reason to decline coverage.
If you care about the color, Cam2 CVT fluid is the correct green color. This doesn't matter much, but some people prefer to match.
Valvoline and Amalie also make good CVT fluids, and theirs are amber in color, like motor oil. STP from Autozone and Fram from AAP are both made by Amalie, and Napa's house brand CVT fluid is Valvoline.
In the past I had good luck with lubegard complete cvt fluid. O'Reilly has a good cvt fluid also. Both use quality base stocks and will meet Subaru spec.
