Where Jackie Jr got whacked
Was not too difficult just minor glitches. Fill plug was in fact torqued in by a gorilla. 1/2” breaker bar to pop it loose. Immediately started pouring out. Then plug in pan next. All into a big pan. Measured what came out at about 4-1/2 quart's, filled fluid pump I bought for trans services with about that much. Pumped it all in, started it up and ran through the gears a couple times. Measured pan temperature at about 100 degrees, unscrewed filler adapter and nothing came out. Put a little more fluid in pump, attached an angled nozzle and pumped some more in until it just started to dribble out. Threaded plug in and done.
Note that the Eyesight system doesn’t like you running the car with the hood up. It set set an ABS code running it on the stands. Cleared and all seems good.
Fluid that came out was very brown, might talk him into another change next oil change.

a 2nd flush would be ideal that's what I had done.

Just over 60k miles, Impreza, Idemitsu CVTF SB2.

Went to do the CVT 100K Km/60K mile maintenance in our nelwy acquired 2021 X-trek. Called the local Subaru stealership, who said they only sell the apparenlty platinum-infused, Mars procured, ultra-grade, Subby-only CVT3 fluid in 20L/5gal pails in Canada. How much? ALL OF IT. $795.00, for me.
So I said OK, how much to have you do it? $500 he said. So I told 'em: I didn't want MY fluid changed, I wanted the cars fluid changed.
So he pulls me aside and wispered (as if we were trading state secrets) that I could TRY buying Subaru CVT fluid in the qt online, or that (looking around to see if anyone was listening), there might be "off-brands' that could work. But I didn't hear that from him.
SO, after much research, including emailing the TECH departments at both Subby Canada and AMSIOIL, I dit it myself....and you'll NEVER guess how much it cost - and how long it took me.
Take a gander at this - and learn ALL the SECRETS.

Wow The people over at the Ascent forum will call you a heretic! They will want the name, location and description of the service advisor to hold him to the fire! Lol. I want to do mine and inquired over there and they were adamant that only Subaru fluid is the only approved fluid, the Subaru techs should be the ones who touch it. Etc…

FWIW, I've used Lucas CVT fluid in my Nissans and it has worked just as well, if not better than the OEM.

Nice. Smart to change. I did not change it on our 19 Impreza and it failed 4.5 years in. I'm pretty confident had I done a fluid change it would have prevented it. New CVT was put in under warranty.

How many miles in those 4.5 years? I'm at 5.5 but less than 30k.
