2019 Hyundai Santa Fe - Rear shocks - OEM or KYB

I hope you painted them !!!!!!! You're in the rust belt, like me, in New York. If not, hit them with spray undercoating. I had the SAME problem in NY. The road salt ate them like cancer, then started leaking. The replacements, I took the cover off, and painted the WHOLE shock in caliper paint. Let it cure, put them together, then installed. SALT BELT SUX !!!!!!! Do the same with Quik Struts. Hand paint whatever I could with caliper paint, let em cure, then install. NO RUST THE WHOLE SALTY WINTER. Factory paint on those things is garbage.

The KYBs are terrible for a stiff ride. Get the OEMs.
I disagree. I’ve enjoyed KYBs on pretty much everything I’ve owned.
-1987 Nissan 300ZX got Gas-a-justs that kept the ride plush, yet controlled.
-04 Ram 1500 4x4 got Monomaxes and rode controlled and plush as well.
-04 Civic Coupe got GR-2s before they badged them over to Excel-Gs. Improved the handling and control, though I will admit that with that light little car, some might have preferred a more soft ride. I preferred the much improved control over maintaining an overly compliant ride.
-14 Navigator L 4x4 started with Strut-Plus assemblies loaded with Excel-Gs. When I first took it for a test drive, it felt like a log truck! Though I did add upgraded Hellwig swaybars at the same time. It took a solid 500 miles before the springs started breaking in and then the ride was comfortable, controlled and VERY compliant. 30k miles later and I’ve had Coil Spring Specialties custom make 1.5” taller, +700lb load heavy duty rear springs for it and I switched to Gas-a-justs for the rear. I did this for improved rear end performance when towing my camper, which I usually keep the tongue weight around 850lbs or so and it ends up a little less than an additional 700lbs after weight distribution on the rear axle. The GAJ units have handled well for towing. I still have GR-2s on the front to maintain some compliance to balance the firmer rear end.

KYB actually advertises that their aftermarket oem replacement shocks are stiffer, supposedly to compensate for the aging springs.
