Mazda has a super smooth shifting trans and lots of praise from car reviews on the automatic transmission in the Mazda3. Reliable and it has quick shifts... doesn't wander looking for the correct gear.
I would buy the Mazda3, I do like the Civic interior especially they still have a CD player unlike the Mazda.
