Anyone see any adverse affects of keeping this pan off?

It’s not small, even has a heat shield on it since it’s a fiber and goes under the engine/exhaust.

I’m not super concerned about fuel economy, I could see wind noise being bit increased. Might run a touch cooler. Anything else?

Good thing it parks on a pavement surface anywhere it goes

Keeps water off the electricals. Keeps the engine bay cleaner.

Manufacturers don't design, produce and install unnecessary parts not usually visible to customers on vehicles.

Does it protect the oil pan from debris hits?

I like to keep'em factory-ish, but it will survive without it. Most vehicles are all clad in plastic under there today. Some, like my 2021 Chevy Traverse have none oddly enough, and I much prefer it that way.

The plastic under-cladding beyond the engine bay is super troublesome in the rust belt. They accumulate sand, dirt and grit to the point they can chew up what's above them. Best case they sag and fall off from the weight of the debris LOL.

I put it back on. Was trying to be lazy since it’ll likely come off in a week or two.

It really wasn’t that bad, will be easier if I’m not lying on my back in the driveway.

I’ve messed with much worse pans in my quick lube days. At least this doesn’t come off for oil changes

I would keep it on. It protects against road debris, water, and other stuff that might hit critical components.

Not much. 5-10lbs by estimate, including the foil shield.

This time of the year, rethreaded tires pieces coming off trucks are a huge problem. Those are not just rubber, they have steel mesh wiring inside, so they're heavy and carry a lot of kinetic energy with them when they hit your vehicle. That plastic underbody plastic piece might not look like much, but it can take the impact if a large piece of rubber pretty well and spread it out. I'd rather the shield takes a piece of rethread tire than the oil pan or trans axle.

We had a Ford Fusion hybrid for 157k - pan was as big as a table and it was that “table” that got me doing 10k oil/filter runs …

Some of the worst that I remember were VWs, Passat's, that Van. When you're pulling them while being in a pit, you had to contort your arms in ways to work around the pit lips and such. Royal PITA.
