2017 Mercedes E400 Wagon. 9900 KM OC on 40K total miles. Decent wear levels. Some fuel dilution and seemingly high acid number for a Euro oil? Oil was drained after long drive so dilution is accurate. Shell V-power 91 exclusively, start stop disabled. I will move to V-Power 93 and change vehicle drive mode from "eco" to default "comfort" mode. We live at the bottom of a mountain and I think the car verges on lugging in eco mode when driving up to the mid-mountain town every day. I'm starting to like the idea of using whatever FS is on sale and 5k mile oci's if the car is going to be hard on the oil.

Looks good. TAN isn't a problem. It's not always a problem when it crosses over with TBN either. Have to look at wear metals too. What is the total oil capacity?

Yes, wear metals seem good. The oil capacity is around 7 liters. I added half a liter over the interval. Oil still had an amber tinge on paper towel when changed. I don't know when to be concerned about TAN. Some stuff I found indicated 3.87 may be a concern.

TAN is good. Nothing to worry!
You have plenty of TBN left.

What's the virgin numbers then?

You'd need to get the virgin BN an AN numbers to get an accurate assessment.

It is GTL, oxidation will be normal in VOA.
TBN will be 10 or higher.
Both numbers don’t increase or decrease at same rate throughout OCI. Depending on oil, you might have fast drop of TBN or hike of TAN, but than it stabilizes. Same goes for TAN. Based on those two numbers, this oil could easily do extra 3-5,000km.

Take a look at Quaker State Euro 5w40. Should be much cheaper and has a lot more approvals than the Pennzoil Euro 5w40. Same MB 229.5 spec but also BMW ll01, VW, and Porsche a40, etc.

oh, that's something new to me. Can't find the approval list on their home page (PPE 5w-40)

I see it for sale at some Canadian retailers but it isn't cheap. The 5w-40 seems to be off the QS website. Perhaps Shell is ceding that market to their PPE 5w-40 product in Canadas smaller market. PPE is very reasonable at Walmart Canada and there are frequent promotions. I don't care about fuel economy or performance necessarily. My main goal is protection and engine longevity, so i am leaning towards higher viscosities. I'd like to try the M1 ESP but it is pricy and the 0w-40 is not widely available. With Canadian prices and lack of choice, Its easy to start justifying paying up for Amsoil or importing HPL when you want to try a "grail" oil. I don't want to run really long OCI's in a DI engine so I stick with "good enough" oils and change them more often. The choices and value in the US are much better than Canada.

I buy it $22 5qrt jug at Walmart in the states, delivered. Wasn’t sure where poster was from.

That price is close to the slightly larger PPE 5L jug when on promotion. The QS is around $38 US and doesn't seen to get discounted. Now if we could only get close to those Texas gas prices! $5.35 US a gal for premium here in Vancouver.

I’m willing to bet you’re also doing the imperial not US gallon which is 20% more?
