2017 Chevy Spark - New Tires

Decided it was time for new tires on the ‘17 Spark. It’s driven by a family member and I’ve been saying for ~6 months that it’s time.

This car has tiny tires, 185/55/R15s. In its lifetime, it has had three sets of tires, all of which were Firestone. We were always able to get a sizable discount but all the tires shredded quickly or became so dry rotted they needed replaced. The latest set, which Firestone installed after warranting the last set, were about to come apart at the tread.

I’ve completely ditched Firestone and gone Continental/Pirelli/Falken now. On went Falken Sincera SN250s. They were $487 installed, smoking deal IMO. Discount tire even installed some TPMS sensors I bought from RockAuto for free. Good stuff! They ride great! Car is so quiet and predictable now.

I’ll be looking to sell this car in a few months.

Driver is wanting to move into something bigger, more capable, and with a few more creatures comforts.

The spark has been a decent car. It gets good gas mileage and is easy to service. But, it’s super loud, had pretty much no creature comforts, and is most definitely dangerous in the case of a side collision.

A small truck like a Ford Maverick is the most likely replacement.

I'm so sad they don't sell the spark anymore. I loved mine. Super practical for a couple with no kids like my wife and I. Tons of room in the garage when her and i both had one.

The 1st gen of sparks were rough but the later version wasn’t all that bad

Bought the slightly larger Sonic (RS turbo of course lol) for my daughter’s first car a few years back. Pretty neat little cars for what they are. She drove it for a year or two with little drama beyond the usual valve cover leaks etc which I addressed during a plug swap.

I would skip the Maverick. Like a few on here, been there and done with it in a couple mos. Really bad driver comfort, silly and often unusable HVAC, unshiftable transmission and just a weird driver.
Took me 4x as long to get lumber at the Depot and get moving than when borrowing my wife's crosstrek hatch; that little bugger will take a big stack of 8-bys inside the car with just 1/2 the back and front passenger seats folded.

I am Not recommending the Crosswreck. but better cars and value are elsewhere. Plus Maverick's ain't going for 23 grand anymore.

Zero plus size for the 185/55/15 would be 205/50/15, giving the vehicle a bit of a different look.

Yep, got the Falkens off Tirerack.

$107 a tire minus $80 instant rebate. $391 after tax.

$96 at Discount Tire for mounting, balancing, and recycling. They threw in TPMS install for free.

TPMS were $60 off RockAuto.

$547 OTD total.

I went with BHSens. I asked the guys over at Discount Tire what they thought of them and they said they seemed quality and are pretty much identical to what they sell, if not the same.
