Mobil 1 Supercar 5w50. Viscocity appears to have held up better than FS X2 5W50.

Supercar 5w50 is really low detergents, and high ZDDP.

Last two oils before this were:

Mobil 1 FS X2 5w50
Mobil 1 FS 0w40

Better base oil

That makes sense since Corvette & other "Supercars" don't normally need long drain intervals.

Thanks! Agree that the Supercar did well holding viscosity. I really can appreciate you trying these oils. I've forgotten there is the Supercar 5w-50. Hope you're enjoying the Porsche.

Thanks! It's a great car. I thought I would have major buyers regret given the cost, but 2 years later none at all. Truly a special car.

What a beauty! I'll tag this post in ~20 years when I pull the trigger on one.

How has ownership been? I know quite a few people with Porsches, and they all have had lower cost of ownership in terms of repairs compared to Audi and Mercedes, not quite comparable for this car I suppose.

Ownership has been good, granted I don't drive the car much (1,200 miles a year) and I do all the work myself.

The prices for the parts are comical, as is service.

For example an oil change for it is $600+ at the dealership.
PDK / Trans Fluid Change: $2k ($450 dollars in parts)
Tires: $2500 for 4.

Even bolts are comically expensive, but luckily it started sharing parts with VW midway through this generation, so you can usually swap.

Thanks for the insight! I've always been curious about it.

I wish you the best of luck on the track and with your ownership.

Hard track use?
Just spirted road driving. Basically, 1-2 hours increments at high rpms backroad driving.

Here is the VOA for Supercar and FS X2 for comparison.

Bckround Iron and Aluminum are pretty random so it might represent half the wear metals.

Both definitely sheared fast. We will see how Driven DI40 MPAO 5w40 does.

How long of a drive before pulling samples? That 0W40 flash point makes me think gasoline didn’t evaporate before sample was taken.

The 0w40 was right after I bought it. Before that, it was a lot of idling at dealerships, idling checking for leaks and overheating, idling for shipping trailers.

Most recent samples were 1 hour drives, let cool to ~150F before I drained the oil.

Yeah, that makes sense.
Excellent looking car by the way!
Thanks. Since you're a BMW owner as well, this car is better value for the money, and 98% as fun. Adding E9x m3 parts as we speak. My wife loves this car way more. :D

Yup, n55 135i m sport. It does have a oil temp gage, pretty much always 240F, 260F when you push it. Amazing how hot it runs. Had me worried when I was buying it to the point I had to stop and research it.

Yeah. 135 has oil temperature gauge, 128 doesn’t. That is how I figured it is 135 :)
Does it have oil/coolant oil cooler or radiator?
I ran my 328 on track at 300f, that is when DME cuts it off.

Oil/coolant cooler.

Apparently with tunes you had max the water pump to "track" mode to keep full water flow even at lower temps.

Yeah, some tunes will do it.
Personally, I would do radiator upgrade. Easy job. You only need thermostat to put where now is that cooler brick (housing stays).
Get yourself some OE lines, radiator, I paid OE brand new on eBay $200. You already have all attachments there ready.
Three major benefits:
1. It will lower temperatures better.
2. No danger of mixing coolant and oil. When gasket on that brick fails, it easily mixes coolant and oil.
3. It will prolong life of other gaskets with lower temperatures.

Nice car!
Back then, ~2014-2016, pricing for GT cars used to be reasonable. ~20k more than Carrera S.

Porsche became too greedy now. 250-300k for a GT is crazy.
You can get a radical and have enough money for 2-3 seasons of professional racing.
