Yesterday I ended my latest buying spree. I saved some money and got some really nice rebates and incentives.
I traded in a truck and also got a good sum of money back plus no interest loan.
I figured the good deal outweighed any negatives. I'm in a downsizing mode and the car fits a niche for me.
The car came in the day before and it had only 3 miles on it before I test drove it.
It had the Michelin Green X 225/50/17's on it instead of the Firestones which I preferred.
The car is very heavy for a Hybrid and the doors have a Mercedes thunk to them. The rest of the
electronics are a bit dated but I real don't need any more of the gizmos and actually enjoy the basic real key over the push button start.
I pulled off the lot yesterday with 14 miles on the odometer. I have had two Hybrids prior but never a C Max.
I learned on my Honda Insight that the Eco button was a joke and I got better mileage never using it. First thing
I did was to turn it off.
I had a 19.5 mile trip home on a rural rolling hills road with a 50 mph posted limit but they do much more. So I kept the car in the 52-57 mph range and varied the speed. I did this for 18 miles and the rest was town driving with a 7 minute run to a drive in.
As I pulled into the lane the car gave me a score of 98% for braking efficiency and I got 47.6 mpg for the 19.5 mile trip. That's on a new car and I had the AC blasting and I do accelerate briskly from stop signs as driving super slow
does not save gas from what I see.
So far that's great and really inline with the old EPA rating from 2013 of 47/47 and 47 combined even though the new car was downgraded. Plus at 3900 pounds with me in it pretty amazing. At no time did I drive where I slowed other people up like the Prius stereotype.... I do get up to speed quick- keep just over the posted speed, coast down the hills and coast at good speed to the stop lights.
The factory mats are rather cheesy but I always get the all weather type so no big deal.
The only thing that is really weird is when you turn the car on nothing happens- dead silence- nothing... like
you didn't turn the key far enough. Its in instant electric mode unlike the Insight which will take some getting use too. The transitions are ultra smooth and make the Insight seem rather crude!
