2015 Chevy Sonic Oil Filter

Our car uses a little paper cartridge oil filter .

Which brand has a better reputation , Fram or Purolator ?

I am running full synthetic oil , Dexos specification .

The filter isn't base oil specific. I would go with Fram as they really seem to be more customer oriented and higher quality. My opinion. the most important filter is the air filter.

Are you limiting it to those brands? If so the fram ultra, i don't care for the orange fram at all. I used to use pure one filters but i don't anymore.

Mobil 1 makes a good filter , Napa gold as well.
I just bought some microgreen filters for 1/2 off, can't judge quality yet.

If it's the ACDelco made by Hengst and also sold on Amazon, this would be my first choice too. The ACD Hengst cartridges for GM ecotec engines have posted some good results here.

Personally I've found Wix/Napa Gold cartridges to be very high quality too for Hyundai/Kia applications. The one shown on RA looks very similar in construction.

And based on several Fram cartridge fails posted here couldn't recommend them above the others. Think the Fram coo for this application is China, and only comes in EG version.

Delco or no go. The Fram and Purolator are likely the same white-box filter with different brands printed on the end. The Delco is higher-quality than either. Beefier media and plastic endcaps that don't flex.

Like others have said, order a bunch online. Or call your local dealer. Some of them have competitive prices for filters.

I own one of these and have been using the Delco filters. Got them pretty cheap on Rockauto. Not much selection for these cars. Sadly no Fram Ultra filters either. These are pretty hard on oil if you have the 1.4T so change your oil often, every 5k or so. Another thing that is interesting is that when you shut it down it drains the oil filter housing back into the pan. Never had that happen on any of my other cars that had a cartridge insert filter before. Makes it easier to change though since there is no mess when taking the old filter out.

The OEM ACDelco filter is the Hengst E611H. The only filters I'd use on that Cruze are the ACD/Hengst, Mann HU 612/2x, and Mahle. Wix/Napa Gold is OK, too, and Wix XP/Napa Platinum would also serve you well.

The OEM ACDelco filter is a Hengst cartridge. The PF2257G is a Hengst E611H

Hengst E611H
Mann HU 612/2x
Mahle OX401D

Our Sonic has the 1.8l engine . I initially bought 4 - 5 Delco filters from Rockauto , when we bought the car .

Change the oil when the % oil life remaining hits about 50% . ( I am old school and accustomed to changing conventional oil at 3,000 miles . )

Yes , the filter housing appears to drain down when the engine is off .

Rockauto had some different brand filters on close out . Since I am changing the oil & filter around 5-% , I am guessing the other brand filters would be OK ?
