Hello everyone. Current situation with in-laws 2013 Nissan Quest. 3.5 liter with 79,000 miles. Never had cvt fluid changed. I was told it's bucking and not accelerating properly. I drove it to my house and confirmed definite transmission problem. CEL on. Hooked up my scanner and found P1778. I researched that and found I'm not the only one experiencing problems with Nissan cvt transmissions.
I see many people have replaced the step or stepper motors in or above the valve bodies. Upon my research I can't find a step motor for a 2013 Quest.
Couple questions - has anyone had this issue or same dtc with a 2013 Quest? If so were you able to rectify it? Does anyone know the correct part number for the step motor? Now I'm wondering if maybe this transmission doesn't have a step motor. Maybe it needs the whole valve body replaced?
My plan for now is to bring it to the dealer for an estimate. My guess is they will say it needs a new transmission. I will then see if anything can be worked out as its about a year out of warranty and 19,000 miles over. Can't hurt to ask. If the dealer isn't flexible I'm going to drop the pan and valve body to see what if any step motor is in there and go from there.
I'm sure by reading this post you can tell I'm outside my wheelhouse on this. I'm a weekend warrior and have done my share of auto repairs, but nothing like this before.
Transmission valve body is 31705-1XE3D. Retails for almost 800 bucks. I don't mind throwing a 30 dollar step motor in it but am not about to gamble with an 800 part.
Advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
