I recently bought a 2013 Chevy Avalanche 5.3L ( LMG ) that had a full AFM delete in January 2025. The PO gave me the invoice showing all the work done and a Melling AFM/DOD delete kit was used. At cold start it has 60 lbs of oil pressure and at 70 mph has 50 lbs of oil pressure. My old 2005 5.3L had good OP but not this good so I’m wondering if I can use the PF48? I was using on my old truck or do I need to step up to a larger PF63? Or equivalent filter? Would filter bypass pressures be the same on either filter?

Current production of pf63 is 22 psi and your engine spec is 15. I have the same truck and used all types and sizes of filter and come to conclude that intermediary and lower grade work just fine. Defence, Pronto, Champ .. all the bargain brands function well concomitant with a sensible oil change interval. And in that situation the bypass pressure number doesn't come into effect.

OilFilters (threads 22mm x 1.5) w/22 psi bypass are:
FramUltra XG10575(4.1”) = AC Delco PF63E or PF64 = Puralator BossPBL22500(4.1”) = Purolator Boss PBL11403(3.4”) = Purolator 20kLX10575(4.1”) = Prime Guard POF2500 = Premium Guard Extended LifePG2500EX (4.1”) =
Denso150-2021; Microgard Select# MSL10255, ServicePro Extended Protection E2500 (JiffyLube)

OilFilters w/15 psi bypass:
FramUltra XG10060(3.4”) = AC Delco PF48 & PF48E – Purolator BossPBL12222 = Purolator 20K LX10060 = Premium Guard Extended LifePG2222EX (3.4”); Microgard Select# MSL57060, Service Pro ExtendedProtection E2222

on my past 2019 Silverado with the 5.3. with plug in Delete module I had no issues with WIX, Purolator PL or PB< and the AC Delco.
^ all of the above posters suggestions are good.

Only thing that matters to an oil filter with respect to engine oil pressure is that the filter shell/can and base gasket can withstand that max oil pressure. The filter bypass valve doesn't operate off of oil pressure ... it operated off the dP across the filter media.
