Really what is stupid is having to look down to see how fast one is going and have 1/2 the steering wheel blocking the instrument cluster.
Some like it, some don't not as big as a deal as you want it to be.

Thank goodness for JC whitney! They have an add on $110 cruise gizmo. I put one in my Saturn SL... funky! That was the killer highway setup, no power steering or options of any sort, good for low 40s MPG.
Usually cruise comes with a bunch of goofy weight adding options.

Thank goodness for JC whitney! They have an add on $110 cruise gizmo. I put one in my Saturn SL... funky! That was the killer highway setup, no power steering or options of any sort, good for low 40s MPG.

This weeks Top Gear has them review England's cheapest new car, a 6995 Pound Nissan. After making fun of the single speedometer (no tach) they then went shopping to see what else they could get for 6995.
They wound up with a used Mercedes and BMW, both V12, both chock full of goodies. Trying to make an obvious point.
I understand the new for 2012 versa is over 100 lbs lighter, and the same 1.6 liter engine is tuned for economy, losing power in the process.

The 2 tier design is great in the Honda for people who hate the center gauge cluster area. (I am one of them) but the 2 tier design really works. Speedo up high, adjust the steering wheel so you can see both speedo and tach, it just works.

It wasn't long ago Hyundai was disposable. (To me they still are)
The Nissan V-6 motor of the 80s and 90s is regarded as bomb-poof. Yet some of their 4 bangers make me nervous because of what we read on forums.
I wonder how much is simply perception and how much is quantifiable reliability/durability decrease.

I haven't read a road test on the new Versa but it certainly isn't the best looking car I've seen lately (styling looks to be about 10 years behind). Nissan also reduced the power of the engine (I think about 107hp in this car vs. 122 in the 1.8L of the previous Versa) to increase mileage. The CVT is supposedly redesigned to be more efficient (and hopefully reliable). With the Hyundai Accent cranking out 138hp and delivering 40+ mpg (supposedly at reasonable speeds will exceed that rating), the Versa seems a little wanting...then of course there's the price.

It wouldn't hurt to make something inexpensive but doesn't scream "I can't do any better". It looks worse than the current one.

I think the $10k V12 cars fall under the "Can't afford one if you gave it me" catagory for alot of us...
They are tempting sometimes though, there was a Lincoln LS running gear Jag for $11k near me for a while. 7 or 8 years old, how bad could Lincoln parts prices be? I'd feel like a tool driving it anyways, old luxury cars, thrashed as commuters gives sort of a wannabe vibe.
