In 540Rat's spring 2015 update, he tested regular old QSUD 0/5w-20 SN as the HIGHEST rated ever regular store bought oils....higher than QSUD 5w-30. Who would have thought? Yup, ahead of flagship oils like Castrol Edge, PP, PU, M1, etc. So that kills the 30 vs. 20 grade debate for a while with respect to RAT's testing. And to muddy the waters even further....read on.

I just checked the latest 540RAT edition and QSUD 0w-20 moved down into 2nd place, beat out by Mobil 1 0w-40 FS which was just recently tested this past summer. This is quite interesting since for years this testing showed the 40 grades to be worse than 20 and 30 grades as a rule. The 2013-2015 versions of M1 0w-40 (pre GTL) tested out in the bottom half of all oils at #105. Very mediocre. And now the FS version that doesn't even meet the BMW LL-01 standards anymore is highest ranked ever? You gotta love the consistency in this testing...lol. Remember that these test results do not apply to wear occurring in an operating engine, but to a 1 arm bandit testing device. So now you have 20, 30 and 40 grade oils potentially testing high on the list.

It could be. If you read the 540RAT lead in material it may discuss that very situation. Read it a couple years ago and an not ready to wade through it all again....lol. Of course if it does, the high zinc levels needed on flat tappet cams don't seem to test well on RAT's apparatus. Some of the best results seem to come with moderate Zinc levels of 700-1000 ppm and not the 1200-1500 levels or higher you'd expect for flat tappet cams. As I recall, RAT's testing goes south when Zinc levels get much over 1600 ppm.

Maybe.

...Maybe.

But that would have to be demonstrated.

If it is a Whipple screw type blower it should have it's own oil with a sight glass. They are essentially lifetime fills with like 100k OCIs.

That 540Rat "oil testing" is one of the biggest jokes on the interweb.
