IOLM at 0%. Semi synthetic blend, Motorcraft filter. Zero makeup oil. Mg took a jump but everything else is about textbook perfect wear. Very satisfied as I'm closing in on 100,000 miles.

Are all of your UOAs using Kendall GT-1 5W20?
Did you get the TBN done? This will show how acidic the oil has become during the OCI.

Magnesium(Mg) is an additive like Calcium(Ca), not a wear particulate of the engine internals.
Ca & Mg work together(I think that I'm saying this right). They're the additives that hold dirt in suspension in order to help keep the engine clean.

Yes, everything does look textbook.

Calcium is lower and Magnesium is higher. However the amount and percentage of each is odd. It looks like I would expect an SN Oil with a quart or two of SN+ or SP added to look. I wonder if the oil might have been bottled during change over and the tank was mixed or two different lots were inadvertently mixed at install. Possibly with the same labeling if it was during a transition period.

Doesn't really matter, just a curiosity.

The Ca/Ma amounts don't look odd to me. Any VOA/UOA I've ever read looked different from one another even in same brand & type. Your's just looks more like a blend than a full synthetic where the Ca is even lower and the Ma is even higher still.

For example: Ca-1700 ppm / Ma-500 ppm or even different...
Ca-1100 ppm / Ma-800 ppm.

Typically from what I've seen, when Ca goes down, Ma goes up. Especially in full synthetics. But, it's not this way exclusively, these are just examples.

I bought the car with 30,000 miles on it. at that time, it was on Motorcraft semi syn changed by the dealer. Since then, it has always been on Kendall semi syn. I buy it by the case and it has never needed oil added between changes.

I have done TBN in the past but as long as the wear metals are this low and additive levels are still adequate I don't bother any more.

The calcium looks high for SN+. The Magnesium looks low to be SN+ or high to be SN.

Regardless like I said just a curiosity. LSPI is a non-issue in this application.

Oil isn't SN+. There has never been an issue with spark knock on this vehicle.

That was why I stated it might have been during the transition between SN and SN. Usually a fair amount of new product goes into the old bottles.

Regardless just noted the proportions were not what I was used to seeing. Certainly no functional issue. I was just noting it because you may see less calcium and more magnesium going forward.

Been looking at the CP products myself.

I think that you're probably right about the new oil looking different. I do know that the use of Ti changed some of the other additives. A VOA from a few years ago had this product at 110 Ti, Mag at 13 and Ca at 2495.
