Awesome.

I figured it would be a tad heavier. Maybe Ford lightened it up even a little more for the 2011-2012 models, and forward. I didn't see any of that info, yet.

Wow, 160 hp and 2600 lbs? Sign me up, that should be a fun and practical car to drive.

I hope that 2600 lbs is for the hatch, as I've always had a weakness for small, light hatches/wagonoids.

I'm sure it will weigh more than 2600 lbs. "(approx)". I wouldn't be surprised if a loaded 5 dr. approaches >3000. A current SES 4 dr auto weighs in at 2830 (according to C&D). I know my title said less, but I read about those "claims".

I also like the looks of the hatch way better than the sedan.

Last time I checked the website, only the Focus S and SE can be fitted with a manual transmissions, the SEL and Titanium models are automated manual only.

2012 Ford Focus Base Curb Weight

The weight is up, even with the extensive use of high strength steel. But after driving and seeing a number of them on the road, it's easy to see where the weight went...they appear and feel much larger than the last gen, from the rear, the hatch looks like a midsize car almost...like splitting the difference.

By the numbers, the wheelbase is a little over 2 inches longer, the overall length is almost three inches longer, the width is where it really shows and that is up three inches as well over the 2011.

2011 Specs for Comparison

On our trip my sister's 02 Focus 2.0L SPI/auto averaged 32mpg on the highway 30 around town. That was with a car full of luggage. The EGR tube is broke at the exhaust manifold so it would probably help a couple mpg when fixed. EPA estimates are 29/23. Looking forward to seeing what these newer Focuses can accomplish.

If I drive 70 on the highway, with A/C, I get a nice, consistent 35, 36mpg (confirmed today). I average less than that a tank because of merging, traffic, and a little bit of city driving. Rated for 33 with the Autobox, so not bad. The mustang does 29mpg highway at 75, not bad for the 4.0L V6.

my fiancee's car has also been trouble free for 40,000 miles now. and sync has got to be the coolest thing ever! every time she gets a txt while driving i push ok on the steering wheel twice real quick and the car reads each txt out loud. she HATES it

Does the newer Focus have the fuel filter right in front of the fuel tank? If it does defiantly change in on a 30k schedule. Not the worst one I've changed but it's up there. Hopefully that'll fix the non-start when cold problem. If it does the Focus is the pickiest of any car I've seen with fuel filters.

weight is about where I expected....2900lbs base seems about right for all the new [censored] that's in the car + the size increase. My 03 ZX3 weighs about 2700lbs sans driver, and it was a pretty spartan model.

It really sucks that they spend all that money on the development of this fantastic new engine and then the weight of the car goes up and negates the effect of more hp!

+1 Or maybe they could put this engine into the Fiesta for a sporty hatch. Also I think if you calculated the centre of gravity on new cars, almost all of them would be higher than the previous model...
Maybe eventually the use of "high strength" steel will lead to tubular frames and composite body panels? Like back in 1990...

That is an impressive little car. I'd love to have one for a dd. The Jeep gets 19 in the summer and with gas being $4.15... But I'm sure it gets better than 40 mpg. My z28 was rated at 26 but I routinly got 32-34 when it was stock.

If It can get 40 MPG with 160hp, just think how it would do if it only had a 120hp engine. 42? 45? Perhaps...

I would think that since you would have to have a much heavier foot, economy might actually drop.

I saw a new Focus hatchback parked on a street tonight. I had to turn my bike around for another look after catching a glimpse of an attractive car in my peripheral vision. Great looking car in person!

If you like the regular Focus, wait till you see the ST. It looks like a pimpin rally car.

I saw a red focus today. I was impressed. The rear end will take a bit more to get used to, but it was a nice looking car. If it is as spacious as the older ones, it will be a winner.
