2011 Honda Civic, possible purchase.

aren't hiding the fact they are a dealer,
by showing the car on a residential street in front of a vacant lot?

No picture under the hood is a deal breaker for me. I want to know how much duct tape and fence wire is involved.

You're the one that posted here for advice, so hey, do as you like. Ad looked legit to me, but what do I know, I've only been buying and selling cars for a few decades. Maybe you know something I don't.

UPDATE: Was able to test drive the car this evening. Cosmetically it is showing it's age. It has the typical Honda Civic paint issues of this generation. Honda paint rash on the roof, and crows feet on the hood. Interior was fine overall save for the headliner that has failed and the broken driver sun visor (typical for this gen).

Fluids looked ok. Transmission fluid has been changed twice in 112K but looks dark so I'll do a drain and fill or two. Engine oil was present on dipstick, and p/s, brake fluid and coolant were present though all likely need to be changed.

The only real mechanical issues I noticed were possibly a worn front suspension part and the blower motor cut out then came back on during the drive. Would that be a relay? Other than that everything appeared to be cosmetic.

Sister is happy. Signs papers tomorrow.

Wow, can't believe the pricing these days. 11 year old base model Civic for $8,500. Wasn't that long ago you could get a brand new Versa for $9,999. Or a Soul for $10,999.

But, it is what it is.

Hope she realizes that within a year or two, and possibly sooner, the car will look absolutely hideous.

I showed her the affected areas, her response was that it doesn’t bother her.

I’d rather have an ugly reliable car than a shiny turd.

Exactly. This is where we are.

The R/J/K/L series Honda engines keep their adjustments better than the B/F/H series that needed them every 30K. On an Civic, every 100K’s fine. If it’s a higher-revving K series like in an RSX/CTR it might be prudent to do them sooner.

Check the oil separator, mounts and the usual stuff. I think that generation of Civic was the best one.
