Looking at possibly buying this car.
100,000 miles.
1) From research online, this transmission and engine have been reliable, correct?
2) Any notable problems with this model/generation of V6 Accords?
CarFax confirms transmission flush at 75k at Honda dealer.
TB/water pump/etc due at upcoming105k, but price takes that into account.
Condition is EXCELLENT, but not all maintenance records available due to one of the previous owners doing it himself. Looks well-cared for by both owners though.
Finally, we do 90%+ highway driving. I know what the govt reports, but any first-hand experience of what hgwy mileage we can expect with an ‘11 V6 Accord?

Yeah, we've been looking at 4's for the mileage, but this V6 popped up in such great condition and at a really good price. We put on a lot of miles, but nearly all hwy...trying to figure out how much it would hurt us in gas. After lots of looking, hate to pass on the condition of this one.

Hmmm, thanks for the link! Current owner says he has not noticed consumption with his 8k OCI's. Do you know, is this a really prevalent issue on these engines, or just a rare hit-or-miss?

You will likely love the car. and, remember, EVERY car mfr has issues. I would not hesitate to buy - however: Honda has had expensive transmission issues. as far as oil burning - I believe it's due to the cylinder de-activation system - and that the piston rings suffer in the cylinders that are shut down. My brother JUST started experiencing oil consumption in his 2009 Oddysee. he is burning more than a qt every thou; and previously had no consumption issues. he uses synthetic, usually M1 or PP, with 5k oci's. he has 90-100k on his V6 oddy.

when I started researching on his behalf, it seems that some Honda owners have disabled the cylinder shutdown system in order to mitigate future oil burning issues.

The transmissions on this generation are typically very reliable with proper maintenance. The J35 of this generation however has been known to be an oil burner. I can't say there is any way to tell if yours will be affected sooner, later, or even at al. You could install VCM muzzler to disable the VCM (the root cause of the oil burning issue) and hope for the best.

Overall, these are solid cars. If you are getting a good deal on it and it is clean and well maintained as you say, then go for it! Just know up front you may run into some oil burning issues down the road.

If the condition is that good, you have little to lose. And the 6 will pull better.
If it is close to the car you want, go for it. You will love it.

I have a 2007 Accord V6 6MT with almost 170,000 Km (106,000 miles).I bought it new.

I closely compared the V6 and I4 at the time and preferred the V6. The character of the cars was somewhat different. To me anyway the V6 version felt more substantial.

My V6 burns no significant amount of oil. I do oil changes as recommended by the oil monitor (averaging every 8000 Km/5,000 miles) using 5W-20 oil of various brands, and the dip stick will be down little or nothing. I get around 35 miles per (imperial) gallon on a long mostly highway trip using standard 87 (R+N)/2 grade fuel. That would be about 29 MPG for US gallons. I've never tried using premium fuel as there is quite a cost difference in Canada. I generally drive at about 10 Km/hr over the speed limit.

I have heard about problems with the 2008 V6 engine that appeared to be related to cylinder deactivation. If it's easy to convert it back, that might be a good idea.

Like others have posted, the transmission on that year V6 Accord should be fine. If you do 90% highway driving though and MPG is a concern I'd hold out for a 2.4L, They are more plentiful anyway and require less maintenance. If power was really a requirement, then I'd say go for the V6.

I honestly wish I would've gotten the V6. But the 2.4 does pull like crazy. AllI have to do is tap the throttle and I get tire spin, and my tires are brand new Yokohamas.

The transmission should be fine. But at that mileage, the VCM will be a major issue. I would pass on that generation. The V6 Camry from this era is a much better buy.

I have the came car as you but in sedan form, I can't say it burns tires with the tap of the throttle lol. It does pull well above 4,000 rpm but down low there isn't much to write home about.
