Hey everyone. I don't post here much anymore but I figured, this would be a good review to post.

Driving
It's a 4100lb, 200+ inch long sedan. It's a GREAT touring vehicle. But even if it had the SHO + AWD package, not a sport sedan. Still, the 3.5L/6-speed auto combo is great. The 6-speed is really geared to shift for comfort. But when you need the power, it will shift, 2, 3 or even 4 gears down if you need it. It was equipped with a set of useless paddle shifters. Fuel economy over 433 miles, with all of our cargo and passengers = 26.6mpg. Very good, considering the speed we were averaging. I was also not easy on the accelerator either.

Interior
Very comfortable and very well equipped. The Limited model I drove had the following:

* Headed and Cooled Seats, 10 way w/Lumbar
* Color/intensity changeable ambient lighting at night
* Rearview mirror with integrated backup camera and Parking assist
* SYNC
* Power Rear Sunshade (lower automatically when in reverse... but does not come back up once in Drive)
* Automatic Climate Control
* Great sounding 10 speaker auto system
* Memory seats

It's very quiet and smooth while driving. The seats were very supportive and viability, ok. There are some blindspots associated with that big pillar in the rear but it's not bad at all. It's very wide, which is something my peripheral vision had to adjust to.

Overall
To get my mom to say, WOW. That speaks volumes... "Is this really a Ford? I can't believe it!" My dad was impressed with how quiet the vehicle is and how roomy it is. My brother liked the lines of the vehicle and was impressed with the quality of the materials and fit and finish. For me, the trunk will swallow a road bike and gear. It's a classy looking vehicle and it drives well. If it lost 400lbs, it would be easier to drive but then again, for a full-size family sedan, it's fine.

I guess Ford's old slogan "Have You Driven A Ford Lately?" really means something these days.

Is there an option to change the color of the godawful blue gauge lighting? I absolutely CANNOT focus clearly on bright blue lights at night (and blue is physiologically the least resolvable color to the human eye, so its not just me). Blue gauges would rule out a car for me, no matter how great it is otherwise :-(

Nice looking car. Ford is leaps ahead of GM in most respects. However....that old Taurus was certainly not much of a car. Let's hope this one is a real winner.

The Taurus is a great car, but if you haven't test driven a 2010 LaCrosse, you really need to. You won't be saying GM is behind anyone.

Both the Taurus and LaCrosse make a domestic fanboy like me proud!

It looks nice, that is for sure.... Except obviously for those disgusting chrome wheels.

All the body lines on their new cars are good, minus the Focus.

And they just need to lose the tacky chrome that should've died back when chrome was popular 100 billion years ago. Other than that... Looks great!

My TL has blue gauges. In the Taurus, it's not as bad in person and has a greenish hue. It's acceptable for long trips. You can change the ambient lighting to different color and brightness.

EDIT: looking at the pictures, I see what you are talking about. I was using my iPhone's camera. It's not that bad. Gauges are white with some blue accents. Control colors are bluish green.

I rented it. I got back in to my TL this morning after I returned it and felt right at home.

It is interesting they kept the name of the old Taurus, never a bad car but nothing exceptional.

Agreed.....the LaCrosse is indeed an attractive car. I've not heard much about it though. If it performs as good as this new Taurus, then I too am happy it's a domestic. I just get a tad worried about GM's reliability issues. I hope the LaCrosse is solid in that regard.

It would be interesting to see how they compare. From what I saw at the Detroit Auto Show, I prefer the look of the Taurus, inside and out. I can still point out cheap bits in both cars but I feel like the overall feel of the interior of the Taurus is better. Exterior... it could be because I'm younger, but I prefer the look of the Taurus. It's got great lines that are unique. The Lacrosse reminds me of a Lexus ES350. But to each their own... I will say, I'm glad the domestic brands have stepped it up.

Is the Lacrosse the Opel Insignia? The Insignia is one [censored] of a beauty.

For sure, Ford and GM have made quite nice cars lately. It is good to have more choices when shopping for a new car.

No, it's not.
