Seems it's SP3 by default. Google shows Dexron VI can be used as well. What say you guys. Might be buying a 09 Elantra touring wagon in the next few hours. It need some TLC but nothing too bad. Just getting a shopping list going in the meantime while I wait for the guy to get off work.

I ran Valvoline maxlife ATF in my 2008 Santa Fe that called for SP3. The factory juice was black at ~38K miles. I did several drain/fills. Owned the vehicle from ~36K to 80k miles.
Yes I don't see why any modern Multi-ATF wouldn't be spectacular in this application. If you want something special check Amsoil, Red Line, HPL, etc. I'd run Valvoline MaxLife or the new Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF but that's only due to my personal use history, value and availability. Use what is available to you at a price you like.

I strongly recommend you drop the pan for cleaning & inspection FIRST and add extra magnets if you can. I'd do 3-5 drain & fills and see how it goes.

Does it even have a drain plug or do you have to drop the pan?

most hyundais of that era have a drain plug, but the elantra touring isnt an "elantra"

its a mini wagon sold as the i30 in europe.

I owned one in 2009 until I got rear-ended while stopping for 100 geese in the road and totaled.
