Father just bought a 08 Camry, the 4 cylinder, I am extremely happy for him.

Any problems or glitches anyone know of for a heads up on this car?

thanks,
Cyprs

1. Hesitation problems, throttle lag, odd transmission programming.

However, they have been (or can be) corrected by an ECU reflash at the dealership if it becomes an issue. Problem was pretty much limited to early build 07s.

2. Harsh transmission downshifts. Again limited to 07s.

Corrected by a valve body replacement. (IIRC)

Engine/Transmission combination is very reliable and should last a long time. It DOES have an ATF dipstick and a drain plug. Takes Toyota WS fluid ($44/gal) and be sure to do a service periodically.

Were not most of the transmission issues with the V6?

Oilbabe and I have two of those Toyota 2.4L engines. She has 172K on hers and I have just under 22K on mine. Neither of us have had a single engine issue.

We just replaced an axle on her car at 171K. We previously had the boot changed at 100K miles. I guess enough dirt got in there before I found the torn boot to damage it.

That is the only issue we've had with the car in 172K miles other than maintenance such as oil changes, belt changes, brakes, etc.

I hope the 2007 and newer ones are just as reliable as we will probably be in the market again when her 2002 hits 200K miles. It's probably become my work beater when the Prizm gets passed to the newly licensed teen in the next 18 months.

Not an exciting car, but it's a reliable transportation appliance.

Thanks, will send this page on to my Father, anymore input appreciated on the 08 4 Cyl Camry and auto tranny etc.

Is getting where you want to go reliably not exciting?

I have a 2003 and Mom has a 2007 and both have the same engine as the 2008 the 2AZ-FE. No issues with either of them. Mine is a manual Mom's is an automatic again no issue's.

My wife and I bought a 2007 camry about 3 months ago. It is a 4cyl. model. We have been very happy with it so far. No complaints whatsoever.

Yes and no. The V6s were the ones that had issues with a complete failure of the unit, as well as the incurable flaring.

The 4-cyl had issues with hesitation due to problems with the transmission programming.

So, both had transmission issues. One was software and one was mechanical.
