Drove one the other day. Not bad, but first time ever driving a CVT. Not sure if it was the CVT or what, but the car didn't feel like it was wanting to glide or free wheel very well-- let off gas and it felt like it was up against a fair head wind.

I read a review on epinions.com from a guy who while giving an otherwise glowing review said "...but I get the drag feeling too as if the hand brake is slightly engaged although it's not."

So I figure that is just how a CVT does, doesn't let the car free wheel as much. Or maybe its DFCO (Deceleration Fuel Cut Off) at work behind the scenes, who knows.

Main complaint was that my feet are big (size 13) and my right shoe didn't have but maybe 1/2" of clearance to fit between the brake pedal on the left and the carpet wall on the right when on the gas pedal.

Bad experiences and poor resale with the earlier Sentra I had (2002) prevent me from ever looking again at another one. I'd pass on anything Nissan. Much better alternatives out there.

I like the sentra I test drove an ser-specv lots of torque for it's size but it's too heavy and doesn't handle as good as a civic si or mazdaspeed 3

Ditto. Out of the 3 big Japanese companies. I equate Nissan with Dodge.

+1, I think Dodge is making their trucks now. It is a shame too as the earlier generation Sentras (prior to 2000) were not much to look at, but were bulletproof. I had a few of them with the 1.6L and they sipped fuel and you could not kill them. Don't know what happened. Possibly the influence of Ghosn and his cost cutting. I do know that I with my experience with the Sentras I owned, when they began to be built in Mexico, the quality went downhill IMHO. They were being built in Smyrna, TN along with the previous gen Altimas and the quality was much higher when they were made in the US.

In my Japanese class, my teacher was going over names of car manufacturers and when she reached Nissan she said the name mean Japanese produced. Then she followed it saying unfortunately some are now made in Mexico. I got a little chuckle out of that. She didn't appear to be someone who would even know or care where a car is made.

That's not entirely correct. Nissan is short for "Nippon Sangyo" which literally translates into "Japan Industries".

Well she wrote out the kanji and explained them so maybe they're interpreted differently?

I know this 日 means sun in Chinese and is the Ni in Nippon and Nihon. And I looked up 'birth' in my Japanese dictionary and this character is part of it 産. 日産 is Nissan, so I don't know.

I test drove a sentra before I got my corolla. was an ok car, seemed a little smaller than the corolla. Mileage wasnt as good as the corolla or civic.

What convinced me was that you always see the commercials for the corollas and civics lasting years and years with stupid amounts of mileage on them and still going. Never see the commercials like that with Nissan, so, silly as it may seem, that is why I got the corolla and havent doubted my decision once.

I didn't get the Sentra. Variety of reasons. I ended up buying a 2009 Subaru Forester base model (5-speed stick shift). I was trading out of a wagon type vehicle (Chevy HHR) and didn't want to sacrifice the utility of a wagon. Once the vehicle type was changed to wagon from sedan in the search, the Forester was a no brainer as far as features for the money... well, at least the base model was-- Foresters can get pricey fast with the higher trim levels and options. I got it $164 under invoice ($19,478) with a valuation above wholesale allowed on my trade.
