From day 1 this car has been fed Mobil 1 5w20 with either a Mobil 1 filter or a Wix filter.

After coming here and learning a wealth, I see that for a daily commuter car this isn't necessary and other oils are fine.

I go by the dash OLM. Which I believe is around 6,000 miles.

It's time for an oil change. I have 4 quarts of Mobil SuperSyn 0w20 I was going to try, and I also have 4 quarts of Nextgen 5w20.

Given the semi-syn nature of Nextgen, and the fact Honda doesn't require a syn oil, would most of you agree that Nextgen will be fine from here on out?

I think at 6k intervals with the efficient R18 engine, any SN formula synthetic blend will be all the engine needs.

The 'Maintenance Minded' in my 07 EX will run the oil life longer based on your driving condition (mostly highway) triggering at 8k+ so a semi-synth isn't such a bad idea.

No,man. Don't run an inferior oil:Run a better oil. I run only M1 EP. It's hot over there in La. You want the best oil performance you can get, which means nothing but a synthetic.

I'm looking at it from a budget standpoint. I will hopefully be entering the USAF soon and am trying the shed as many bills as I can before I go. I could understand if I was switching to a gas station brand. But Nextgen isn't an inferior product, nor is Mobil Super Syn, but I can't justify the cost of staying full Syn when going off the OLM.

CTown-it's well known around these parts, Hondas will run well on any API approved oil SL SM or SN: from Autozone's house brand to WalMart's house brand. Let's say your sump holds 5 quarts. At each oil change you could fill the sump with 1 quart each of a different manufacturer's product, 1 AZ, 1- Super Tech, 1 Valvoline, 1 Citgo, 1 Quaker State, drive it for 5 to 7 K miles the change the oil. Now use 5 different oil brands you have not used in the previous mix. Keep on going like this and your engine will last just as long as someone who has used brand X exclusively for the life of the engine.
Oil products have become so complex, they are now simple again. You can't hurt it if you use any API approved oil along with the manufacturer's viscosity rating. Don;t forget to change the filter as well, any easily eecognizable brand will do.
Bottom line = your engine cannot read labels

Wow....talk about mixing oils....Steve is a very mixed up and confused oil mixer. So you change brands so often that you can't keep track of what you have in your sump. Why not suggest the mix you put in your wife's car?

If you follow what Honda is using which is very much Motorcraft you will do fine. Looking in the VOA section will show you the Honda blend they sell and the Motorcraft both by Conoco are almost alike. Now you are ready to move on to other important things in your life.
