I am thinking about buying a 2008 or 2009 Ford taurus. I wanted to here from anyone that has one. I am wondering about gas mileage as I drive 2500 miles a month. I am also wondering about the 6 speed transmission. I have had bad luck with the 5 speeds and the 6 speed concerns me. Any input would help.

Thanks

I had a 2008 sent to my work from another branch for a salesman. It had 40k on it, and the transmission shifts terribly - it jerks, slams into gear and is anything but smooth - it just doesn't feel right. We took it to the dealer, they had it for 3 days and upgraded the software which seemed to help for a couple of weeks, but I just rode in it yesterday and it is acting up again.

I don't really like the exterior styling, but the interior is nice.

I've driven an '08 Taurus Limited bought with 70k on the clock for about a month now. It was a salesman's off-lease car, but since I knew the guy who drove it (married his sister!), I didn't hesitate one second. He had all the service records for every 5k oil change and regular maintenance. It had just been re-shod with new tires, new brake pads front and rear, new windshield, and detailed inside and out.

In-city mileage for me runs about 20mpg on 10% ethanol regular gas. That's about 10 miles each way for the daily commute. The transmission shifts very smoothly, and have encountered no shift harshness or anomolies. Ford does not recommend a fluid change for the 6F50 until 150k, but I'll probably change it out soon.

It's a very comfortable car, very quiet and smooth. I am surprised at how effortlessly this thing floats down the highway. It rides like a much bigger and heavier car. The 3.5L engine has 60 more horses than the 3.0L and you never feel like you need more power. It has tremendous rear leg room, and the trunk is a lot bigger than it would appear to be.

I am entirely satisfied with the car and the comforts. The body is tight and rattle-free, and the stereo actually sounds good. This one doesn't have a sunroof, but que sera sera.

For the price we paid, we got a great deal.

My bad fellows as I think I might need a new set of glasses. I saw the 2008 and misread it as 2003. I had a 2003 Taurus so I know absolutely nothing about a 2008 model. Sorry

I really did like and had good service out of the 03 though.
