I would like to use Motul 5w30 in 2008 Corvette, and it appears that Motul 8100 5w30 Eco-Lite is the only Dexos Gen 2 licensed oil, which is the current recommended spec. My question is if Motul 8100 Eco-nergy 5w30 could also be used as I have a local source with this in stock. Eco-lite is slightly higher viscosity at 40degC and 100degC, but Eco-nergy actually has a slightly higher HTHS.

8100 Eco-nergy 5w30 looks to be an obsolete spec as it has an SL rating for gasoline. If it was my car - I would run 5w30 Dexos1 gen2 only.

I only mention Dexos because that is the current spec oil for corvette engines. The 2008 oil was a GM4718M.

I wouldn’t be too concerned about d1g2 in that engine. It’s a large displacement, naturally aspirated, port injection engine. I would run something a little more robust, depending on your driving style. Motul X-Clean would be a good option. Still a 5w30, but thicker.

Yes, Motul X-Clean is thicker at 40degC and 100degF, but only a slightly higher HTHS than Eco-energy and with a significantly higher TBN. In addition, Motul Eco-nergy is close in viscosity to the standard recommended Mobil 5w30 with a significantly higher HTHS.

Would Motul Eco-nergy at least be equal to Mobil 5w30 in terms of engine protection?

Eco-Nergy doesn’t really seem to offer much, if anything at all, over Eco-Lite, and it lacks the stringent manufacturer approvals of X-Clean and X-Clean+. My 2 cents.

d1g2 is only important for TGDI engines.

Besides, dexos didn't even exist in 2008. Either Motul product will be fine

That is probably what GM requires . Check the owners manual .

Our 2006 Buick does not require Dexos . I have changed it at 3,000 miles with conventional oil .

Our 2015 Chevy Sonic does . I change it at 4,000 - 4,5000 miles . I wish to keep the insides very clean . Especially the cam phaser system .

Nope Dexos was not a standard in 2008. The Motul will work great.
