You manage to turn every other thread on this board into one. Oh and your message title certainly screams unbiased.

Unacceptable!

Power steering pump went out on my brother's 2005 Acura TL at 62k miles. Is that acceptable?

Agreed. A coolant check valve stuck open, and cracked my radiator in my Acura RSX at about 33k. Then the drivers side window retainer clips broke and the window fell into the door and shattered around 45k. I'm tired of the American car bashing. I've had just as many issues with Hondas/Toyotas as I have had with the 2 GM vehicles in my garage.

BTW, the new Malibu is a STELLAR car. I wish people would take the opportunity to see what a good, reliable, well valued car GM really can make. I did. 11K and it still feels like I drove it off the lot yesterday.

Reminds me of the people on here who slip in a mention of GM's intake-manifold gasket issues into every thread - particularly those threads about other makes of cars. It must be a BITOG hallmark!

I have the previous generation 2004 Impala with the 3.4 engine and have had no problems at all. The 04 seems to have more legroom in the rear than the newer generation, as well as slightly better gas mileage. I actually like the older generation Impala better than the newer one, but that's subjective. That being said, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another GM car. The wife has the 2008 Malibu 2.4 (it will be 1 year old next month) and the only problem was the rear window defroster had the wire come loose. On it, they had to take the plastic interior trim off to plug the wire back in.

I in no way slandered GM, I just said I wasn't impressed with this Impala. I also said that this wouldn't influence my decision on the BIG-3 in general and I also said that in future I would consider all makes/models and what they have to offer.

I also have said in every thread that I would like nothing more than to support the Big-3 but they don't make what I want with the features/reliability I want, for the price I want as the "Foreign" makes do presently.

WHERE AM I BEING BIASED?

Excuse me for buying what I think fits my needs, at a price I can afford, with a reasonable cost of ownership...

If this is biased then I guess I am slandering GM.

FWIW I liked the styling of the pre-2006 Impala more too, but I think the interior on the new ones is quite a bit nicer. I'm also a huge fan of the newer 3.5/3.9 engines, lots of torque and very smooth and quiet.

To tell you the truth I thought you were pretty fair in your posts in this thread, but the title makes it sound like you're not going to be. And hey, you asked.

I'm on crack and biased because I wasn't impressed with my experience with a Cheverolet Impala? Even after I asked that this thread not be turned into a bashing thread, and that I would support the BIG-3 in future if they met my needs?

Having a hard time seeing that one...

Go snort some more...

Just thought I would share my experience of riding in a 2008 Chevrolet Impala for the day with a co-worker.

My co-worker bought the Impala in August and it now has 22,000KM (13,750 Miles) and it already has problems and I wasn't really impressed with the quality of the car build, the fit/finish and the leg/head room.

For a car that's a mid-sized sedan it's very tight when it comes to leg/head room. My legs were very uncomfortable and my head was almost touching the roof, not to mention I had to rub my head against the sloped part of the roof when getting in/out and I'm only 6'2" ?!?

The cars check engine light was on, and I asked my co-worker and he told me that it's an intermittent problem that the dealer can't seem to solve and it has something to do with the transmission. I said after only 22,000KM? He shrugged and said that after the 6th time to the dealer he gave up!?!

The car materials for the most part were pretty good although the plastics around the steering column looked very cheap.

The Door hinge in my door looked loose or not put together well because the part that was bolted to the body was moving around when the door was swung.

The decal on the side of the car that says "GM" was slightly crooked and the fit/finish on the seems outside and inside the car weren't even in all spots and/or tight.

The car rode nicely and the seats were comfortable and the engine was very quiet and I was impressed with this.

I think they still have a long way to go, if the company still has a company left!

IMO just another reason why they are in the state they are in, because they need to fix these problems.

My Sister has an 06 which is the exact same car. That thing is GREAT!. Ony car( short of a performance one like the new Challenger )I would consider. Fit and finish is fine. It's not a luxury car in her trim level but no complaints for what it is. MPG is amazing and far exceeds the EPA rating wth ease. The V6 has more than ample power.

As far as room goes I am 6'3" and weigh 300lbs and have more than ample leg, body, and head room. Drove it on a 2000 mile vacation last year and it was extremely comfortable. If I have one complaint it is how low it sits to the ground but I have that complaint with most any car as I am used to a truck and I am so tall to start out with.

The 06+ Impalas are a GREAT car!

Did the manufacturer at least give you some good discount because of it?

GM didn't do that for the Impala water pump.

My brother (with more money than brains) traded it in with the pump you could hear coming from a block away - he was looking for a new car when it went out and didn't want to deal with getting it fixed. Acura probably would have covered it since it was only 2k miles out.

The Impala should have been covered under the 5/100k warranty.

Hi

The current gen Impala is a nice riding car and with the 3500VVT, fairly fuel efficient for a V6 family car.

This being said, I preferred the last gen Impala as the chassis seemed to offer more opportunities to mod it for the track (L36/L67).

The current Impala only seems to be lacking in styling, otherwise, a decent ride.
