I'm looking at buying a 2007 Pontiac Torrent with the 3400 V6. It has 127000 miles. Anyone have knowledge of the durability of this engine/transmission and or vehicle?

Thanks

3400 is decent aside from the typical 3400 issues like intake gaskets and not sure what else was specific to those engines. The transmission is a Toyota 5 speed automatic and I don't think it was particularly problematic. Just an average vehicle, there are much worse choices you can make.

As said above, the 3400 wasn't a bad motor if maintained. Don't see many on the road so there's another data point as well.

Failure rate on the 3400 IMG is close to 100%; but hopefully it has been done by now.
If you are in the rust belt, they rust from underneath badly.

I'm in Florida but I'm still going to look underneath it to make sure it hasn't been driven in the beach. Thanks

I read elsewhere that gm may have went to a metal img by 2007 but I don't know how I would tell

We had an '08 Equinox, which is the same thing. Drank oil and coolant like a drunk sailor near the end of our ownership. Interior was cheap and awful. Had an engine tick that no different oil or additive solved. Yes, I know the engine needed opening up to fix that.

If you don't "need" this vehicle, skip past it please.

I already have a 07 Chevy Hhr that's been a great car
You'll like anything then! 😁

Check the title history, make sure it wasn't flooded or up north. I bought a tow dolly from a dealer who took rusted out uninspected vehicles down to South Carolina to sell at a buddy's BHPH lot.

Don't pay too much.

The Hhr now has 219,000 miles on it and uses no oil. I used it for a magazine route and pulling a utility trailer and hauling all kinds if things. It has more carrying space inside than a Vibe. It's been and is very reliable

Yes the unibody sheet metal where the powertrain subframe attaches at the front of the chassis is a bad rust area. Terrible design that could have easily been done differently. Very similar problem on Saturn Vue has several good YT videos showing how to fix. I repaired my Vue and it was pretty easy and my weld/fab skills are lame.

Advice from a GM guy- they are junk.

Garbage motor from china, trans is decent if not driven hard.

Frame rot is bad on these……

They make the issues on the 2011+ not look as bad……..
I can't speak to rot as we don't have it, but I put 150,000 miles on an 07 Equinox with the Chinese 3.4. I did brakes, oil, transmission service and tires on it. I mean that was literally it.

Nice!
But the catch is you took care of it. Most never did. Without care I saw quite a few in the yard earlier then they should have….

Also bet it was plenty of freeway driving too.

I can’t hate on them to much- I still like the design of the first Nox…..
