An update on my 2007 Ford Fusion with 45k miles rough shifting.
Decided to try Castrol Multi Vechile import since I have the FRN5 transmission. It was cheap and for sale locally and met the M-V spec. Ran a 10 quart flush. It is MUCH better now, especally cold.

Thanks to everyone for the advice.

I thought Fusions use Toyota T-IV fluid, since its an Aisin Warner trans. Although Castrol Multi-vehicle meets T-IV too, so I guess it's a non-issue.

Some of these newer transmissions seem to be very sensitive to the fluid you run in them. Using a multi-application fluid may be a mistake. I don't know but wouldn't want to find out the hard way.

millerbl00,

Good to know, I have a few friends with 4 cyl, 5 speed auto Fusions.

I have the 5 Speed, It uses FNR5 which Castrol Multi-vehicle Import meets the spec. The factory fluid shifted very rough.

The 6 speed uses another type fluid.

So 5 Speed = FNR5 = Castrol Multi-vehicle Import = Amsoil = Mobil One ATF and a few others.

So 6 Speed = Toyota T-IV or Ford Spec or ??

No, the "Motorcraft premium automatic transmission fluid" (scroll further down the page on that link) is the Toyota fluid. FNR5 fluid is apparently different.

You got a weird OM, then. Mazda says the M-V fluid in the FNR5 is a lifetime fluid and requires no maintenance.

I don't doubt it. I change mine at 50k intervals but the manual most definitely does not say to change it at 30k intervals.
