2007 Cherokee - Vibration

Hey Guys,

I have 2007 Cheeroke that gets some random vibration while driving ... It stops when I put some load accelerate ...

Alignment Checked ( SnapOn Laser )
Tires/Balanced Checked ( Road Hunter )

No Idea what can cause it .. feels like road vibration ...

Any tips ?

Seems too knew for wheel bearings but check run out with a dial indicator.No reason for it to go away under load tough. Have you hit the drive shaft while out wheeling or anything? A tiny dent can really toss a wrench in the works when it comes to drive shaft ballance. In fact any excessive run out from the transfer case back will cause vibration... Vibrations can be hard to track down at times.

I don;t think that I hit drive shaft but u never know ... I'm considering it as a option.

Inspect drive shaft, inspect & grease ujoints and re-torque bolts on the flanges. Look for fluid leak on rear diff pinion flange. If you have any runout or play in the driveshaft it will vibrate. While the car is up rotate the drive shaft back and forth by hand. You will see if it is loose.

A pinion that has lost it's factory preload can do this as well because as you accelerate the torque pushes the pinion into the ring gear and hold it steady while under load. When you let off the accelerator the pinion looses the torque and backs off the ring gear. This is usually accompanied by whining on deceleration in the 50-65mph range.

But, my first guess would be a bent/dented drive shaft or bad u-joint. U-joints will get loose and flop around causeing vibration.

So it only does this on cruise, not when accelerating?

yeah only cruise ... and its not always ... I was driving for 2 days and it was gone ... then it came back ...

Maybe Auto Transmission is shot ? ( Is Amsoil Universal ATF good for this transmission ) ?

Where are the Ujoints located ? - Is it OK to use Mobil 1 Grease on them ? ( How do u grease them DO I need to take it a part ) ?

Flanges ? again no clue what are those

( I'm trying to google all this stuff )

Is the lock up torque converter going on/off when you feel the vibration?

I don't think so ... tho vibrations are coming from floor .. not Engine
And no Vibs on steering wheel ...

I would have to guess bad tire wear on the rear tires. My back tires were cupping a little and when I increased the load, no more vibration since the weight was forcing the tires on the ground.

You've already placed it in neutral to see if that alters the vibration? Swayed the vehicle left and right to see if it alters it too?? Applied brakes while attempting to keep the vibration active?? Cycled the accelerator up and down rapidly to see if it freely goes in and out ...getting a "touch" for when you can make it appear at will??

That is, you've played with this in every way that you can imagine ..and keep thinking up new ways to see if you can produce it ..if for no other reason than to show a tech when the time comes?
