2007 Camry, first steps to keep tuned

Hi all,

After a long week, and MANY threads (yes, I promise this should be my last one for a while), I've finally gotten a car.

2007 Toyota Camry LE, I4, 42k miles, 1 owner, clean Carfax. (Gold ext/tan int)

Due to titling, registration, etc. issues, I won't have the car until some time late next week, early the following week, but I want to get everything set (spend a few hundred to 1,000), so that it continues to be in the great shape it is in currently.

Here were some of my ideas, please let me know what you all think.

-Oil/Filter, I was thinking of going Toyota Genuine (for the Moly)
-ATF, obviously going with the Toyota Genuine on this (as recommended)
-Drain any latent washer fluid and replace it with un-offensive SuperTech blue
-New wipers (cheap enough, might as well do it)
-Flush and replace coolant with genuine Toyota (should I do water pump while I'm in there?)
-Air filter/cabin air filter
-Battery?
-Spark plugs?
-Have brakes inspected and fluid inspected

Way to low of miles in my opinion to be messing with a water pump.. just change the oil, service the transmission, throw or check the air filter.. Drive.. if its not broken....

I agree with the water pump comment, it's way to early to change it. Also the coolant if it's the long life type can go for another year or two.

I would do your maintenance in stages. Oil and filter now, doesn't have to be Toyota Oil and Filter. Then you can drain and fill the transmission. Not sure if you want to drop the transmission pan and clean it. I've done this 3 times on my Sienna and the transmission runs super smooth.

Do you do your own maintenance or are you paying someone to do this for you?

agreed, if you will sleep better at night change the coolant, otherwise run it out a bit, your paying for it, get your use out of it..

my wifes 07 accord still has the factory fill in it, im planning to change it out in the spring..

Thanks everyone for the replies, how I love this forum!

Perhaps for the first run I will do oil/filter/ATF/air filter.

Then for a later run I'll do spark plugs with a subsequent oil/filter change.

I'm clueless when it comes to coolant, so I'm never exactly sure what to do... maybe get one last winter out of the stock fill and then have it done?

I don't do any work myself (my living arrangement restricts this), but I do have a great mechanic that charges fair rates and has been quite honest in my experiences.

spark plugs (by default they are iridium and should be able to last at least 6 to 8 yrs)

coolant (these are Toyota "pink" HOAT either in LLC or LC format which is good for the first 10 yrs/100,000kms and then change it out every 5 yrs)

Battery, nope. so long as it's load tested to be fine.

brake fluid, nope, not until 5yr mark IMHO.

cabin air filter, yes, air filter, yes.

oil, the usual stuff (no need to go fancy on the 4cyl engine, they'll take virtually anything and won't miss a beat).

just drive it and enjoy.

We have a 2007 camry I4. We run penn. Ultra 5-30. Seems to like it. We had a major oil consumption issue and toyota put a new engine it. Everything is fine now. How do you plan on changing the transmission fluid? I just bought amsoil atf world standard stuff. Getting ready to change during christmas. Currently have 70,000 miles...

Quoted for truth, we have an 02 Camry, with 235K miles on it. Original water pump. Change the plugs at 100K intervals and you'll be fine.

Change the oil and filter. Check the brakes and belts (inspect the tensioner) and keep driving until the major recommended service intervals. Plugs don't need to be changed until 100k miles since they're iridium. In fact, my mom's car has over that many and it still runs okay.

Good call on changing the washer fluid.

We bought a 2003 Grand Caravan used years ago. I believe someone put Windex in the washer fluid reservoir...it would come out foamy and soapy. I kept topping it off with washer fluid and running that through the system and eventually the offensive stuff cleared out.

I think you'll like the car. Mine was gold/tan also. Blends in well. You can run 80 mph on the interstate all day long and a gold Camry is like camouflage on the road!

ATF - Use Castrol Import Multi-Vehicle. Works better than genuine T-IV IMO.

Coolant - Use Zerex Asian Vehicle Formula. Extremely close to most asian coolants and it will allow you to move to a uniform coolant if you have any other asian vehicles (or any cars with all aluminum engines really).

The only reason i even say ATF Fluid change is its a habbit of mine, anytime i buy a new auto the engine and transmission are getting fresh fluids, I never buy brand new and simply feel better knowing theres brand sew stuff in the new/used auto i just purchased. its just peace of mind for me.. although many cars (like yours) may be new enuff or low miliage enuff its not needed..

I completely agree.. Kinda like most earth tone coloured mini-vans.. they can get away with murder on the open road..
