Hello,

First time posting here, and am a bit overwhelmed with the information, but am slowly taking in a little at a time.

I bought this Scion from a private seller who didn't drive it much, and am wondering if it would be better to change the oil with 5w-30 or something a bit thinner, 5w-20.

Am considering Mobil 1 but there seem to be quite a few opinions here as to which brand is really good, and which ones stink. I just assumed that synthetic oil, no matter the brand, would work and protect better than conventional oil; am I wrong in that?

Thanks for your input, I appreciate it.

Stick with whatever oil viscosity the manuafacturer recommends in the owners manual, I believe for a 2006 Scion XB, it is 5w30.

Any 5w30 synthetic oil, no matter the brand will be fine with your car and protect better then conventional oil.

Hope you enjoy your "toaster":) that's a solid, reliable engine in the 1st Gens. I have a 2nd gen and sometimes still wish I had gone with a first gen. They just seemed more "unique."
