Did Mann change there oil filter for the Mini Cooper? It is listed as HU8162x, but I see a bunch of HU8161x filters that look like the oem one. The HU8162x has a plastic end....which one is better? Does one replace the other?

The 2x replaced the 1x. The 1x is obsolete and if you're seeing them they are simply old stock.

Well, I ordered both of them. I will compare to see which is better. They both have the internal cage, so I should be good.

Often times a running production number change will be due to something such as a resin style, polymer change, or even a impregnation improvement. The physical dimensions will not change but something as common as a supplier change will spur the production number change.

I have not idea what changed on the numbers you gave. Sorry.

To follow up on the filter application data: the numbers were changed due to application necessity. The 1x number was sold in Europe to fit both the BMW Mini and also the Chrysler Neon. The 2x number is for ONLY the BMW Mini.

So there has been a production change between the two filters and you'd be best served by using the 2x. BMW specified the media for this application.
